Border TV has had the task of covering a huge area for years, an area which has 3 different parlaiments, laws and cultures.
Viewers in the area often post on forums like this saying it is biased towards certain areas, people in Kendal or Whitehaven dont really wanna hear stories about Stranraer or Kelso and vice versa.
so why not split the area up?
Heres how I would do it,
Cumbria - Granada
Isle of Man - Granada
Northumberland - Tyne Tees
Dumfries & Galloway - STV (Glasgow)
Borders - (STV Edinburgh)
The enlarged Granada region would be split into 2 sub-regions
Granada North - Lancashire, Cumbria and Isle of Man
Granada South - Gtr Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire etc

Anyone have an opinion?

I think it's fine the way it is to be honest. If Dumfries and Galloway and the Borders became part of STV they would hardly get any coverage.

If im right in thinking, Granada can't be split into sub-regions as it only operates from the one transmitter. I think Borderland is a very difficult region to cover anyway due to the many restrictions and laws (as you said). However, apportioning it to a Manchester or Glasgow based news service wouldn't make sense either as the region wouldn't get the propper coverage it deserves.

We already see this on Reporting Scotland with token stories in Dumfries with no real impact or relevance (granted Border TV Region isn't exactly a hotbed of news). We also have Carlisle (on the BBC) as part of a North east region where it sticks out like a sore thumb and gets no coverage (the same as when it was back in the BBC NW region which did happen for a time IIRC ).

If anything a seperate BBC Border region should be created or more sperate opts on the current BBC/ITV services. I highly doubt that the Border TV region would be viable to split up amongst its counterparts - the amount of money and time needed just to (in affect) have a few hours of new news programmes a day is unjustifiable.

I LIKE this idea!

D&G and the borders would problay get there own News service: STV south!

at the rate is going the South of Scotland should brought into line with the rest of STV

although Personnel I would give
top half of Cumbria to Tyne tess
bottom of Cumbria to - Granada

to my knowledge Lancashire would have to stay with Manchester as there only one Transmitter!

North Cumbria is already bombarded with North East news on BBC Look North.
Granada TV is for North West England which is where North Cumbria is, not the North East.
I would also like to see the area returned to the BBC North West region.

Top half of Northumberland already gets Tyne Tees as of December just gone..

I was pretty much split the region up as has already been suggested. I also agree that Granada could do with being split into sub regions.

Yes indeed Berwick upon Tweed has been switched over to Tyne Tees, however as far as i know places like Hexham and Haltwhistle are still in the Border transmission area.

Hexham isn't far from Newcastle, pretty sure that gets Tyne Tees.
