Another rather annoying scheduling error today has been the Ten O'Clock News and Newsnight. It annoys me all year round that Newsnight starts about a minute or two before the Ten has finished. However, the Ten O'Clock News was extended until 22.45 tonight. Did they delay Newsnight? Nope. Still went out at 22.30. Now, as far as I can see it, the people who watch the Ten are the most likely candidates for watching Newsnight, and vice-versa. Why do the BBC make it so difficult for viewers to watch both?

Agree with all you've said re: BBC World etc. too.

Especially though agree with the Ten o'clock News / Newsnight situation - it's always been ridiculous.

Though it wouldn't stop problems like last night, I do think generally speaking they should keep the 10pm news self contained so it ends before 10.30pm, and then viewers are advised to stay with BBC1 for regional news, switch to BBC2 for Newsnight or News 24 for the sport.

How about extending the main news on the 10 until 10.30 then say beeb 2 - Newsnight, N24 Sport, or stay on beeb 1 for regional then let the regions run for 15 minutes inc. regional and national weather then had over to lottery/other programs at 10.45

Or give Newsnight a new start time of 10.45?

I wonder if Andrew Neil mentioned it at the start of today's programme?

Some organisations just CAN'T LET GO of a grudge can they?

Laughing Quite a contrast to the matter-of-fact way Mrs Thatcher's resignation was reported back in the day:

I went down to Westminster yesterday because I'm a big politics, media and TV Pres nerd, and recorded a stupid video. Have a look at this if you want a vaguely "behind the scenes" look at the media circus yesterday:

Newsnight get a Minister's photograph wrong on their Cabinet lineup tonight.

A really interesting behind the scenes look at the media coverage and how the OBs from Westminster work. And you got on the background of N24 as well!

Thanks for uploading it.

what was the music out of interest?

surely the only appropriate piece of music would be "things can only get better"

ITV evening news used "Bittersweet symphony" at the end.

Newsnight used The Killers "For Reasons Unknown" IIRC!

Indeed - and an excuse for another few years of West Lothian Q moaning from down south.
