I seem to recall that when there was extreme weather in Scotland a couple of years ago, and some landslides etc, I think Shereen Nanjiani appeared quite extensively across the entire network on the ITV News Channel. Didn't see it myself personally, but heard that was the case.

On this current story, it has to remain finely balanced I guess, as handling it in an over the top way could lead to a panic amongst the masses. (Undeniably, it is a serious story though).

So, that being the case and to avoid being alarmist until further facts are gathered, they probably wont be showing and extended coverage on the main channels tonight, although the rolling channels will flog it to death.

Cheers,
James

I think I know the landslides your talking about James - I think I remember Louise was live at the scene on the lunctime and teatime bulletins. This the one your on about?

Your right - it will have to be balanced as u wouldn't want any Scottish bias - then again - I think that ITV News is mostly English biased to be honest. They sure don't feature much on Scottish end of things, unless it's a really big story. .Sad

I even remember when the opening of the Scottish Parliament - and both ST bulletins were broadcast on News Channel Smile

Cheers,
Laura.

All outlets that I have access to are leading with the story this morning - BBC World (Top Story), CNNI (Same/shared with IRA) and Sky News (going way over the top IMO.)

Lorna Dunkley appears to be handling most of the coverage on Sky, with Eamonn Holmes only dipping in infrequently.

Is Scotland not classed as part of the United Kingdom anymore?

Not according to one tory shaddow minister dubbing it on some news channels as ''scotlands problem'' and mainly a ''matter for the scottish executive''. I can sense a great independance debate approaching... Very Happy Shocked

I didn't see it all, but Chris Choi was driving round Guildford in a minibus covered in 'ITV NEWS BIRD FLU INFORMATION' vinyls finding out how much people knew about bird flu.

I've defended ITV News in the past, but it's becoming more of a parody of itself every day.

UTV Live are now reporting that two dead swans have been found in County Antrim. Must have been quite recent as ITV News haven't mentioned it yet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think ITV News were the first with the test results of the Scottish swan (apparently it did have the H5N1 virus).

I live in Fife and I have to say I've heard people panicking about it, when there's nothing to panic about. News 24 has had excellent coverage of the story throughout the day - they seem to be a lot more sharper and 'sticking with the story' than Sky.

I have just posted these in the Scotland Today thread but probably more appropriate for here....

John Mackay for Scotland Today and the BBC have sent the heavy weights to Fife with George for the Six and Jackie Bird for Reporting Scotland.
