No way!!!! Was it acknowledged on air? Any fanfare? I had no idea......

It was. Chris recounted how Moira had been persuaded to do the show, and the last Golden Oldie they played was the first one they played almost 9 years ago - Morningtown Ride by The Seekers.

Hang on, he used to be a newsreader too, so can't he do his own newsreading ? Wink

I do recall when Melody Radio in London started (which after a few iterations is now Magic 105.4)
the presenters read the news during their own programme. Peter Dickson, Peter Marshall, Bill Bingham etc

Does Chris Hawkins still read the news headlines in his own 6 Music programme (at 6:30 from memory)?

I just listened back to a couple from the previous few weeks, and it seems to have gone away - presumably following the introduction of the 0700 bulletin from the duty newsreader at the start of the year. (His show still has the anomaly of weather from the early Salford forecaster - live at 0530, the 0630 is sometimes a prerec).

Although a trained journo, on Radio X Dominic Byrne merely reads the news - he's effectively a co-host so wouldn't have time to write it.

Like I say, London has a central newsroom as do regions with more than one brand. It's not uncommon for the same reader to pop up on Heart, Capital and Smooth if they're all in the same building, although I think there's some subtle differences on Communicorp stations.

Are some of the late night bulletins only Global branded rather than station specific so that they can be broadcast on multiple Global stations?

John Suchet and Moira Stuart? It'll be just like the 90s all over again!
