As well as doing her usual news bulletin on Frost, Moira also did the summary on the Politics Show - which is usually done by whoever is doing the main bulletins later on, on BBC1. But I don't think we will see her doing the main bulletin later on.

I'm surprised this went unnoticed, though I guess The Mail on Sunday can't be very popular amongst TVF members!

There was a double page article in today's MoS (pp38-39) about Moira and her family history. She described how she was often asked where she originates from and she never knew. She has recently been tracing her family tree and discovered her "epic family journey from the sugar plantations of the Caribbean to the heart of British life in just five generations".

A documentary called "Who do you think you are?" featuring the Queen of BBC News herself, begins on BBC TWO on Tuesday 12th Oct at 9pm.

*GASP* we ran out of MoS today, obviously this is the reason why it was so popular. I demand a scan of the BIG MOIRA spectacular.

I am of course aware of the Histoy Of BIG MOIRA show. There's a delightful article here which describes her as an "elegant newsreader".

I would love to see both the MoS article AND the Documentary. However, living overseas, it will be highly unlikely that I will get to see either.

I agree with the correspondent above who described Moira as the Queen of Tv News. Isn't she just?

I would like to think that her presentation on the Politics Show is a sign of the lady edging her way back into mainstream presentation on BBC1, as opposed to being shut away alongside the Breakfast team.

I've got a copy of the MoS but my scanner isn't working properly.

I'm not being rude, but it was actually her decision to join the Breakfast team, and I suppose that is what her contract will extend to. But yes, I agree with you, she is too good for Breakfast.

She really could do with her own breakfast show.

It may have been her decision to join the Breakfast team, after two years of only presenting one 5-minute bulletin per week!! I am sure that the lady was very keen to get back into broadcasting in some way.

After the BBC decided to ditch Moira from the Six, Nine and Weekends in favour of Huw, Fiona et al, she was given absolutely nothing to do for two years except present the headlines on Breakfast with Frost on a Sunday morning! (Can anyone confirm if she actually did anything else on BBC News during that period?)

I think the majority here agree that Moira is way underutilized on BBC News and that she deserves far more mainstream exposure.

Has anyone had any success in being able to get a scanned version or hyperlink to the Mail on Sunday article on Moira? I would love to see it.

Did she not do the breakfast shift on News 24 before they started simulcasting BBC One?

Yes, I think she did.

Really? Moira doing Breakfast shift on N24?? I don't recall that at all (that's not to say it didn't happen).

Does anyone have a screen-grab of this?

yes, Moira did indeed present on News 24. I remember it well, though probably it didn't get many viewers since it was a rival Breakfast programme to the BBC1 offering.

It was a revelation though... Moira in a different setting, laughing and joking with co-presenters and doing interviews. She was great on N24, though I think they were here wilderness years. This was the late 90s, when N24 hadn't made quite such a mark.
