Here is the Calendar theme and credits from the late 1960s. Uploaded by Adam Frost on Youtube. Some names there, on them credits.

I think the best for me has to be

Central West from 1997... The music, the colour scheme (very 90s I know) and even the little window on the weather in the cake logo shape. A lot of thought went into it and it shows.

The future was certainly touted to be bright when they moved to Gas Street. It's a shame as the studio centre opened as 16:9 capable and I understand a lot of the graphics were designed in 16:9.

I agree Mike, and I see that it was in the thread earlier too; whilst saying that it has a 90s feel now, at that time it felt ahead of its time to me, and wonderfully stylised the central cake into a flat, single colour design. It worked very well... just a shame that Carlton decided to bin off the cake logo rather than use it in a similar way.

Staying with the Midlands, I have a fondness for this Midlands Today theme (and the way that the shapes spin between headlines) https://www.tvark.org/?page=media&mediaid=81403

I have always been a big fan of the very first London Tonight theme.

I was gonna post this same one. I didn't have a lot of experience of travelling the country, but this is a good nostalgia for me.

Channel's ident in the early '90s looked and sounded a little odd... and the theme for Channel Report at the time sounded a little odd too.

Both those pieces of music have the hallmarks of a 'knocked up in 45 seconds for library music' , and not of the Mr Keef Prause or Bruton kind, either..

I always liked these when Granada Tonight became Granada Reports again

but then I thought the next set of tiles and set mainly looked cheaper compared to this

I agree. I wondered why they included the Prescott punch in the earlier ones though. It was obviously reported at the time, but to play a clip of it every night seems a bit much.

Ha ha yeah didn’t realise that at the time I can’t imagine Mr Prescott will have been amused. That aside though those titles were fantastic I remember watching that using the other channels on a sky box.

Here's a sting for Southern's 'Complaints Box' clearly knocked up at about 11:55am on a Friday before departing for the pub.

The whole clip resembles a Monty Python sketch (almost)

ATV Today from the 1970s. Something of the Christmas tape about these titles...

This is a great thread. So much awful dross I've somehow managed to miss over the years.
