I think the difference in studio quality between Reporting Scotland and South Today Oxford is larger than the difference between Reporting Scotland and the best BBC regional studio. The Oxford programme really is terrible. I earlier didn't rank it below Reporting Scotland because it is so terrible that I forgot it; and I live in Oxfordshire!

bbc oxford is the only studio which has visible lightswitches Rolling Eyes Anyway, I think SET is actually quite nice if a little blurry. Am not a huge fan of Spotlight either... Arrow

I think the South East Today backdrop is far too blurry - it actually looks quite distracting.

I thiink the rostrum that they have added to the Midlands Today set has helped with the main presenters shots, but it isn't the most elegant looking thing around is it? It does look like what it is, an afterthought?

I think the made it blurry to detract attention away from the newsroom, so you dont get incidents like seeing cleaners polish the floors, etc. (like the old n24 set). But it is a bit OTT. Very Happy

indeed, i guess the only other option is raising the entire floor of the studio ... which isn’t really practical. once you get used to the rostrum the studio looks bare without it.

midlands today REALLY need to experiment with walking and talking to get the most out of the new studio. they do just tend to throw to a reporter in the newsroom, where as walking and talking would really bring the viewer into the newsroom, and give the newsroom they see behind the presenters a context. i know lighting is an issue - but the newsroom does have a few lights and i'd imagine the capacity for a few more.

the area by the canalside window used for the politics show would make a fantastic soft set, but to date MT have only used it once for irish dancing. lets hope bbc mids also keep up the tradition of presenting summer shows from outside, because although they no longer have the pebble mill garden, they now have the mailbox terrace which is rather nice.

They could possibly make the edges of it more curved / rampy instead of just a solid step

MT should do what channel 5 news did at first; an open newsroom with no glass partition
