well the pics of the mt studio posted earlier are a little out of date - they have since put the main sofa on a podium, to give the mcu and cu backdrops more of an "impressive room" feel, rather than the "back of someone’s head" feel.

and the adition of the daffodils is a rather nice touch.

so yes, i think midlands today’s set is the nicest (although i did prefer their temporary "news from somebody's kitchen" look in the old pebble mill conservatory.

the worst i have sampled is north east and cumbria, they really are stuck in the dark ages.

The Reporting Scotland set is definitely the worst (although Oxford's is just as bad - at least it isn't on air for 30 mins at a time!). MT is good, but it has to be Newsline's set as the best. They have a desk, (which is quickly becoming less and less widespread, a bad move IMO) and a seperate area for sport (which also works well when they do an interview there) and a big screen in studio for the weather. The whole programme fits together well, staying in the same place (unlike RS who have to cut to somewhere else inthe building for sport and weather). I also like the way they do (or did, I haven't seen it for ages) the headlines at the beginning (wide studio shot into the news headlines, sport headlines then weather). Titles are also great. Scotland should follow NI's example!

Best - BBC Newsline, I just think the studio works, although Sarah Travers can really lonely if she is only person in the wide shot

Close Second - Midlands Today, the National News would look much better if it used a real newsroom.

At the other end of the scale
Worst - Scotland Today, Just really bad colour scheme, why not use a Blue newsroom in the background, get rid of the red?

I think you mean reporting scotland. All they need is a dark red couch in the studio and move sport and weather to the second big screen Very Happy

Oh come on - the worst BBC region has to be the South Today Oxford opt out .. is it true it comes from the reception area. It's a mess - blue, red, white ... small ... horrid. Even Hull made their shoebox (before they moved) look better.

Yep - the original Look East (West) Cambridge opt, which came from a desk in a local radio studio, looked massively better than Oxford, and the current Cambridge studio (where the old Radio Cambs newsroom used to be) is really quite nice, though the city skyline backdrop is a bit of a nonsense at night (because not much of Cambridge is floodlit)

That Scotland set looks like a leftover from the BBC London late 90s look...

Strange considering it launched in 2001!?

From what I've seen I think the BBC South East set is my 'worst' - the thick to thin horizontal lines on the backdrop look like something from the 70's. It doesn't do anything pleasent to Geoff Clark either..... he just looks wrong

Go on then, one of you cap-happy people show me what Oxford looks like.

Reporting Scotland's long awaited refresh was disappointing to say the least, but it the studio really is tiny, and so limited in choices. Trying to design for two programmes left Newsnight Scotland the clear winner. Shame, but not the end of the world. I look forward to the move to Pacific Quay.

From all of the caps and clips I have seen, I most prefer the Midlands Today set. Its really quite impressive.

i don't think the Reporting 'Scotland studio is as bad as everyone here says it is. It's not the best (BBC London News and the Look North (Leeds) studios are the best) but it's not the worst.

To be fair on Reporting Scotland, imagine if they had a fab set like Midlands Today or Northern Ireland and then put Jackie in it. Most TVs North of the border would explode with such concentrated fabness.

The STV News studio is dire. (Scotland Today, etc.) Only Shereen makes it bearable.
