All three big channels have had revamps in the past two years, with each adapting a style. But which is the best?

Vote now but remember when voting:
- Which is most appealing?
- Which is the least obtrusive?
- Which presentation works best for breaking news and announcements?
- Which features the best animation?

I voted for Sky News because the presentation to me is easier on the eye. Though BBC News is a close second. ITV News is terrible, the studio is horrible, the presentation is tacky, and ITV News need a major revamp with a new studio and professional graphics, not the tack they have at the moment.

I personally don't like Sky News' presentation, I think it's far too tacky and in-your-face.

ITV News needs improvements, notably, some new on-screen graphics, I like the studio though.

I voted BBC News.

The studio is horrible, especially when they do close ups of the presenters, and the graphics in the backgorund are all fuzzy. Yuck! Very Happy

Sky News' presentation used to be good when the graphics were red and blue and had good quality titles, then the graphics went boring and the titles went wrong.

Everything about ITV News is cheap, tacky and generally horrible to watch, need I go on.

BBC News' presentation isn't perfect (eg. the live dog) but it is the most professional looking package at the moment. So I voted BBC.

I really like BBC News' presentation in general. News 24's graphics are by far the best news channel graphics I've seen. They are neat, not too obtrusive, and look stylish and professional. I also really like the way they animate and adapt to the information being displayed (usually) really well. However, the national news graphics, whilst fulfilling their purpose quite adequately, do look quite out of date now. News 24 graphics could so easily be adapted for the national news. The News 24 set, I think, is really good for the amount of space available, although I do feel they missed a trick in not incorporating a larger screen into the right hand stand-up area. They also could make more use of screens in the newsroom - something like this mock I did a while ago:

Sky News' graphics aren't so bad, but I do find they generally obstruct much of the picture, can be too "in your face", and the blue bar, when not being used as a ticker, is completely pointless clutter. Before News 24's relaunch I would have said Sky had the best graphics, but now the BBC has steamrollered ahead in my opinion. I've got no problems with the Sky News studio - nothing spectacular, but it works.

ITV News' graphics are dire in my opinion. Not only do I find the colours cold and unwelcoming, but the way everything is laid out is poorly implemented (compared to Sky's, which are basically the same idea). I think ITV has the least professional-looking graphics. I've never been particularly keen on the "Theatre of News", either. From some angles it can look great, from some of the close-up angles it can look painfully cheap (anyone who saw an ITV News Update on ITV1 this morning would know what I mean). Although it must have seemed like a great idea to use such a large CSO, I just don't think the end-product is spectacular enough to justify all the effort.

So in all, BBC News is miles in front with in presentation terms, Sky in second place, with ITV lagging way behind.

I like the mock, great idea.

BBC News is way ahead in news presentation in my opinion - one thing really annoys me though - the 1993 virtual reality studio was designed to bring a universal and coherant appearance to BBC News across ALL bulletins, and then the 1999 revamp was designed to be a more warmer and accessible approach for viewers - So why then do we current have dark titles and a distracting studio? The 1 uses the screens to show pictorial representations of the main stories, whilst the 6 uses those awful headline 'slugs' and the 10 seems to use neither, or both. I think that all BBC News presentation should follow the same layout.

However, the reports and the 'BBC News Specials' are always of a high quality! - So it's not all bad!!!

A minor point, but what you were seeing in that brief update was not the 'real' theatre of news, but the virtual replica of it, which does look much more noticeably fake, and often has dodgier lighting etc.

I just can't see how ANYONE could have voted for ITV News!! The only thing I like about it is the Name Aston, but the rest makes me laugh out loud sometimes! Their 'studio' is so garish and vile its hard to watch. The huge screen gets all muffed-up when they do any kind of CU on a presenter. From what I have seen from the ITV News Channel, the Breaking News and programme name 'floating' around is distracting and ugly. Their virtual studios and such are so WIERD. They use them at every oppertunity despite them looking like bad mocks and adding nothing to the report at all! I just cannot understand how this was ever okay-ed by a focus group... if they ever did one!

I voted for Sky News because I think the BBC has some way to go before they get everything right. I'm not convinced by the big blocky DOG thing for the time, and the headline strap is a little too large for me. Sky can be quite OTT and the colours and lack of space can be counteractive, but its a good overall package. But I would have voted for Five News if it was there. I love it!

I guess the reasoning behind the differences is t give each bulletin a destinct identity whilst being part of the coroprate look; this has always been the case since the bulletins were harmonised. But I agree, the current set is pretty dire. The previous one was better and I like N24's set.
