ITV just did a really emabarrassing interview about Benazir Bhutto with a teenager in a cafe in Manchester.

It was totally pointless and uneccessary.

The next guest to be interviewed was shown no respect by Steve Scott who started talking over him saying ''we've run out of time'' etc. He couldn't let him finish.

What a disgrace that ITV News' bulletin was.

Channel 4 News has just started, with Jon Snow presenting. It's so far the best coverage, even if there wasn't a breaking news item.

Well they have had 5 hours to consolidate reports, put together a comprehensive package and discount the rumours. It's a shame they didn't bring viewers a news report earlier in the afternoon.

And simulcast or not - BBC World viewers could just put up with a few minutes of domestic news. Considering they'd chosen to get their news from the BBC, I don't think they'd be an issue.

This is the BBC not separate news sources. They all share the same resources in crises like this. Why will New24 home stories be any more important than WORLD global stories, that they will have to put up a few minutes to know what was happening in the north of England. . This is the number one story all around the world today and I saw it wise for them to stick with the story.

Exactly, far better than 5 hours of random, on the fly, speculation and comment.

Rolling news channels should just report what has happened. Analysis needs to be carefully prepared and assembled, hence the normally excellent output from C4 News, and BBC 2 NewsNight.

However it is Christmas, go back three years, staffing levels are reduced, there's no Newsnight and the main bulletins are also shorter.

What we have seen today has been slightly exploiting the story to cover dead air on the News Channels exactly as happened with the Tsunami in 2004.

If anything of substance had arisen it would have been covered. As it happens nothing has occurred, even the Policeman in Edgware 'Murder' has now been, following a post mortem, downgraded to a natural death in service story. Looking on the BBC Website the only story that's broken which might possibly deserve a break to the Bhutto story, is the breakdown of the BAA pension strike discussions.

I think the BBC has been excellent today, covering the story very well, especially with the input from senior correspondents such as Simpson, Gardner, Hewitt and Hanrahan. I think you have to expect blanket coverage from a rolling news channel on such a big story as this, otherwise it wouldn't really be doing its job would it?
