BBC's remaining 4:3 regions converting to 16:9?

North East & Cumbria now in full widescreen (April 2007)

Unless I'm very much mistaken, this morning's Breakfast bulletins on Look North (NE&C) were broadcast in full 16:9 for the first time, complete with new astons, graphics, and typical teething problems such as reports going out in the wrong ratio.

I'm just wondering if this means the BBC is finally converting its remaining 4:3 regions to widescreen.

Also, it was interesting to note that the Astons appear to be designed now to match the national look, with 'BBC Look North' squashed in a red box at the bottom, on the left.

Yes, NE&C's graphics changed last night I think, I hadn't seen them before then and showing in widescreen.

They had a bit of trouble with the new astons; the names were placed to high and consequently went above the red and black banners. I take it this was fixed this morning?

Have they changed the L-N titles too?

The Astons seemed okay to me this morning, so looks like they've sorted them. I noticed though, that despite emulating the national style, they're still using Gill Sans rather than Swiss on them.

As for the titles, we'll have to wait til lunchtime to find out, as they don't run titles on the Breakfast bulletins.

That must just leave Bristol and Plymouth to change then.

St Helier's already changed locally, but can't broadcast in 16:9 till the Plymouth gallery changes.

Is Manchester not still 4:3 as well? I'm a little behind the times on such matters since binning off Sky.

Could be; though I vaguely remember something on here a few months back about Manchester changing.

Nothing's every happened in the North-West that's been important enough for me to tune in to Gordon's Gig.

The move to 16:9 happens when the new news production systems (server based) are installed and in some cases this has co-incided with moving to new buildings.

IIRC Newcastle was upgraded a while back (while remaining in their building), but didn't switch to 16:9 straight away.

No idea about Bristol and Plymouth, I suspect Plymouth might move to somewhere more modern

I only caught the 7:55 programme, and the astons match the national ones. They seemed to have darkened the studio lights which I dislike as the presenter is in darkness, & the new weather summary layout I dislike. Overall not bad, I'll have to try and catch the late news to see if the new titles etc.

How did they do it without moving out, park a scanner outside or did they set up a temporary gallery somewhere?

The astons look a bit rubbish running all the way across the screen to the right hand side, but not the left.

I thought their would be new titles. I watched the start of the 6:30 programme online and as the poster said above the astons aren't good as they dont run along to the left of the screen as far as they do on the right. In the opening headlines, they just had LOOK NORTH on the astons and not the story title.

The astons look like this but not the Look North with Harry Gration.
