Sports Headline and UK Weather are two new services, being added to the existing News Multiscreen Service on BBCi on Freeview from the end of February.

Pete Clifton, Head of News Interactive, commented: "This is a fantastic development for our Freeview audience, giving them access to up-to-the minute sports news and UK weather to accompany the existing news service.

"This is a very important platform for us, and I am delighted we can now offer even more choice on it."

Eh? The old BBC Parliament 1/4 screen is now full screen, and hence uses MORE bandwidth. Therefore your explanation makes no sense Sir!

Yes but the 1/4 screen service was still running on ch.305 along side the full screen BBC Parliament. But the 305 service has recently ceased so i guess thats where the bandwidth is coming from.

They squeezed an extra channel out of the mux.

Previously it was:
Arrow CBeebies / BBC Four
Arrow BBCi 301
Arrow BBCi 302
Arrow News Multiscreen / BBC Parliament

Now, BBC Parliament and News Multiscreen each have a stream of their own. For a while the old 1/4 screen service continued on 305 for reasons I fail to understand, with the new full screen BBC Parliament taking it's place on 81.

What I don't understand is why it's taken the BBC nearly three months to expand the multiscreen service?

Some TVs needed to rescan to change from showing the old quarter screen to the new full screen, hence I think the delay.

Because not all boxes auto rescan so they'd still see the quarter screen Parliament on 81. It moved channel numbers after it went full-screen (with the old number taken by the new service), but again not all boxes would pick this up automatically.
