The ident just didn't fit.... (December 2004)

Last Christmas (2003) to introduce the news at least they had a slow version of Snowflake that had a light, Christmassy, yet serious tune (rather like Skateboarders ) whereas this year they've got a jolly, happy tune with children bouncing around on puddings! It's totally inappropiate for any news programme especially a BBC NEWS Special.

If the puddings make a return next year - we hope they don't - then there has to be a serious rethink of the news ident.

I suggest either bringing back Snowflake or alternatively bring back Ballet (one of the best idents anyway) and make it slightly more Christmassy for example editing the background so that it is snowing or covered in snow and perhaps editing the music ever so slightly.

ITV1 used a static silent version of their usual idents before tonight's ITV News Special.

It wasn't static or usual. It's an animated blue sheet affect in the background. No music though...
