The problem is that they will have to live with the noise until the studio gets a re-install. They couldn't feasibly take it out and replace it with anything else at this stage. It gets some nice angles from up there, and is used extensively throughout every day on News 24, not just at the TOTH.
It is over-used though - and the quality of the camera is pretty poor. It is OK as a device at the top of the hour once an hour - but it is a mistake to use it during studio chats (and very odd to use it moving), as it is little better than a CCTV camera, and the doesn't "match" any of the studio cameras...

It used to be used for a nice closing shot on N24 Sunday. I like the angles it gives, and I can't say the quality of the camera isn't too noticeable. That said it is very noisy. There must be a way of dampening the sound it makes, even covering it in foam or proper acoustic dampening.

Some nice changes in the presenter line up this week. Given that Nik Gowing is over here in Doha, Qatar for the week, his usual slot was filled this week by a combination of Nisha Pillai, Mike Embley and Lucy Hockings. It was nice to see Lucy working on a Friday, and on a late shift too!!
She seemed more suited to a solo anchoring role, as opposed to the TWT, where her interactions with co-presenters always seem slightly contrived!!
Also, whilst taking a stroll down memory lane at TV-Ark, I was surprised to see that Rob Butler and Mark Longhurst (Five and Sky respectively) were anchors on BBC World in the mid nineties. As probably one of Worlds longest serving viewers (ahem!), I have to say that I can remember neither of them on BBC World.
I do recall Tim Sebastian as one of the principal news anchors though, before he was given his own slot called "HardTalk".
Those were also the days of Messrs. Hayton, MacCormack, Marx, Cole, Hanrahan and Dobbie as main anchors, supported by the likes of Pillai, MacNaught, Ahmed, Wittstock, Pike, Brancher and Pedrosa.
Oh - bring back the flags era!!
