From what I know, BBC World is set to get a new breakfiller (before anyone asks I'm not getting confused with the mock that appeared on here and YouTube). From what I've seen: it's in some ways similar to the old breakfillers that were pure text and no video but this is interspersed with promos that appear full screen.

To try and clarify this: imagine watching an ordinary promo for HARDtalk for example. The end frame of the promo is reduced to the left side of the screen and on the right the time board appears. The background is a black and red globe with ribbons. After X seconds this is replaced by text of some kind, ie an item of news or market information. After that another promo is played and the cycle is repeated again.

I liked what I saw, it's certainly better than the current 'dynamic junction' which is over crowded and not mention orange! Sadly the version I saw did not have a countdown clock, which is a shame but I don't know if that has certainly been removed from the breakfiller. Something which could also be improved is that the breakfiller looked 'matte' and did not have the new 'glassy' look of the new titles and onscreen graphics, which is also a shame. Sadly there was no audio to what I saw, so I can't tell you about the music, for that we will just have to wait and see (or hear!).

The best thing would be to have BBC World transmission at Red Bee Media generate both the ticker and bug, which can then be superimposed over News 24 output during simulcasts, rather than the studio gallery generating them. Presumably, this would also allow the ticker to be on view during recorded programming like Hardtalk without them having to be routed through or played out from the gallery.

Indeed it would. Unfortunately that is not possible at present

Who generates the red block then, gallery or World Pres?

Agh, BBC News 24 simulcasts today have been having that clock problem like usual.

Well I just saw headlines an hour ago, and the headlines popped up within Hardtalk,
but they must have been from outside the News gallery (correct me if I'm wrong):

1. They were vertically aligned a bit lower (and didn't match the BBC World logo)
2. It popped up from the bottom of the 4:3 screen, not the 14:9 screen (!!!)
3. And, well, the BBC World logo was text-only and no red background for that show

So what do you think? Was it done externally like we're talking about? Let us know if you know how they put up the headlines every 15 mins when a tape show is on.

The red block during overnight news isn't going to disappear ok. as for the other ticker you talking about its the badly made 15minute one. There is a tranperant watermark during programmes such as Hardtalk, FF, Extra Time, FastTrack etc etc, live with it please!

No! I demand my right to whinge on the internet!

(Besides which, I pay for BBCW via pay TV subscription fees, plus whatever chips into the newsroom via my UK licence fee).

All I ask is for them to keep faith in their original designers' wishes ...
after all, don't we all know we could fix it if we were let loose to tinker with it for one weekend? Wink

... Original designers probably done it. Its been like that since day one of new look, only thing changed since there is Live/time being moved down and the ticker text has been made a tad smaller. now the red block on dog during overnights, BBC World can't help it.

It's not BBC World's fault, it's News 24's fault for giving into viewers with square tellys, they effectively had to reposition the clock, and BBC World end up with a red block!

Couldn't News 24 just remove the clock when simulcasting? Or at least add the clock to a blank part of the ticker using a different output than the one given to World?
