Yes I agree - the last set of graphics were cutting edge when it comes to animation but their reliability let them down. I loved the animating side bar to the right in the last set of graphics - the one that slid in and out with the astons - very elegant. It makes the new ones seem a little like a step backward. But overall the new package is much better - at least the logo on the titles isn't squashed any more! Now...if only they'd look at the mock breakfiller a few pages back and take the hint!

On Youtube I saw the beginning of the first edition of The World Today, courtesy of jameshhjh. When was the programme launched?
The intro theme back in the red-cream era was amazing. How is it now? Have they kept the previous one? I've been waking up quite late recently...

The World Today has been a programme on BBC World for many years now - way back into the early-mid 1990s. It used to be on several times a day. BBC World took it off the air in 1999/2000 but later brought it back in September 2001. Since then, it has only aired once a day at 0500 GMT and its main presenters have been Martine Dennis, David Eades and Lucy Hockings, although many other presenters have deputised since 2001.

The World Today now is just the same as normal World News openings now. Although a different version of the headline bed. and they say there hellos at the 3rd or 4th headline and it goes like this "The is the World Today I'm Lucy Hocking, and i'm Sally Bundock coming up in World Business Report" then it shows a biz headline and titles play... well thats how it was when I last watched it anyway.

Probably not the best video to show how its done normally cos of Lucy at the start. But if I can, ill try sometime this week to record a normal one.

It's a shame they don't use the old music just at the start. The way the strings built up, followed by the single 'important' drum beat was very impressive - just right for a morning news programme (though I appreciate it's not morning all around the globe!). The should have used it for Breakfast too.
This is what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtlifXvO1jc - well good!
