Intrestingly, 2003 wasn't the first time BBC World used a stacked version of the logo. I noticed when downloading some videos that when BBC World rebranded in 1995 (prior to that, it was BBC World Service Television), the DOG was the stacked version all the time.

I just discovered that for the first time too, today, but it was while accidentally tuned to a music channel (I have 17 decoders on my desk). They were playing a recording of Elton John's piano piece at Diana's funeral, and somehow got the copy of BBC World's coverage complete with the stacked logo (and slanted boxes pre-9Cool.

On another note, when are they going to fix the weather music? It's so hacked together right now, ever since the 2002 rebrand.

And another thing about the weather is how weird it is. I notice the red "EUROPE" or "ASIA" etc keeps moving up and down a tiny bit -- sometimes it's on the edge of my monitor (outside the safe area) and other times it's not.

But moreover, the whole report has bleeding colour. It looks like it was produced in 4:1:1 or something. By that I mean, every area of colour is mixing itself with the colours to the left and right by a certain distance.

Does the weather report come out of the news studios? It's odd how it's produced in 4:3 but the news isn't.

I know what you mean about the weather ident. I don't know why they couldn't keep the full version which they had been using since April 2000. It was only a couple of years ago that they shortened it. It sounds awful now.

The weather forecasts do not come from the BBC World newsroom. They are pre-recorded in the BBC's weather studios in TVC. Presumably, the reason they are in 4:3 is that they are going out on BBC World which only broadcasts in 4:3 (except the news which is 14:9).

I've just seen the new breakfiller and I have to say that those odd white tentacles appearing every 15 seconds don't look that good. Freaky stuff.

Anyway, is there any reason why every year in Davos Nik Gowing broadcasts from the middle of a snow storm instead of any place indoors?

New breakfiller eh? Have you seen it on air or off? Does anyone have any caps?

Well, no, the term "new" is not really appropriate. The only thing that changed is the ident.

This is NOT the new breakfiller Damo/The Eye made it, but it's truly amazing and I think needs a mention in here.

F**king Brilliant Damo. Really like that version of yours. Thanks to Bail for the post.

Absolutely extraordinary! Looks like it's been capped right off of BBC World.

That is rather fantastic. Would be nice to see World revamp their other graphics, I'm under the impression a lot of the channel pres is still of the 2003 look.

Yes, the only thing that has changed this week is the news programmes. The breakfiller, break bumper and channel idents could really do with being updated. They're still in orange and black when the news is now in red and black. It's a bit of a clash really.

However, I do like the fact that BBC World keeps the same music/idents for its other programmes. The World Business Report music is the only part of the 1997-2000 Flags era left now. Out of interest, does anyone know when the current idents and theme music first appeared for Asia Today, This Week/Reporters, Hard Talk etc.? I know they've been the same since at least 2000, but I don't know how far back into the 1990s they've been used.

I'm surprised that nobody has commented on Tanya Beckett presenting BBC World News this evening. If I remember correctly, she has presented the Washington/London bulletins a few times (or was she in New York?) but I think this is the first time she's ever presented a shift of full bulletins from the newsroom in London. I noticed she just crashed the thunderclaps in the headlines sequence, despite the interval now being six seconds. She obviously isn't used to doing it, as WBR doesn't have punctuations in its vamp.

Although I didn't see it Rob, I do quite like Tanya as a newsreader. She is pretty good. So are Manisha and Maryam for that matter.

Still suffering from the excitement of Damo's mock breakfiller though. Hope someone at World sees this and takes up the idea. LOL.
