Smooth. Alistair Yates recaps his bulleting with the "main news again": Shane Warne has confirmed his retirement. Show vt of press conference and Shane Warne confirming.

Break.

Sport Today: "Reports that Shane Warne will confirm his retirement from international cricket later today".

Do they share resources?! Or are the news people more clued up on sport than the sport people?

Given the time of your post, it seems you must be talking about overnight UK time. That edition of Sport Today is pre-recorded, whereas the News is live.

I see Janat Janil is doing the overnight simulcast, the ultimate graveyard shift of the year.

I must say having Big Al on the overnight last year was much better - "Hello, Welcome to BBC News, I'm Alistair Yates, and if you're celebrating today, a very merry Christmas to you"

He did the overnight last year? I'm sure he presented during the day.

Merry Christmas.

Alastair Yates did the evening shift last year both on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. He also presented on Boxing Day and almost every day of the following week, including New Year's Eve's midnight shift and on Jan 1st.

Merry Christmas to everyone on the BBC World Thread!!

Didn't manage to see the channel at all yesterday - who was on for Christmas Day?

All the best,
James.

Well, Lucy Hockings at 0600, then Jonathan Charles, David Eades, Alastair Yates and Deborah MacKenzie overnight.

When will The World Today resume broadcast? I'm right here in the Philippines and getting worried about not having TWT! And when is Sally (Bundock) coming back?!

I would imagine normal service will resume tomorrow, as both Christmas Day and Boxing Day are public holidays here. I suspect things may change on New Year's Day as well, as that's a public holiday too.

I'm more concerned at the fact that this particular member is "worried" about not having TWT.

Talk about getting a grip.

I saw the BBC World coverage of Saddam's execution last night (Philippine time). I took a picture of his dead head (which was broadcast on Iraqi TV). World handed over to News 24... For this coverage.

Mishal Husein is on BBC World now. I guess she is the old presenter who will come back, and I'm glad she is. Wonder what slot will she take.
Also what was she doing last few years?
