Jonathan Charles and Manisha Tank interact very well on screen together. Jonathan had Manisha in stitches at one point.......

Interesting before, HardTalk was full 16:9 ... straps and all, but we got big fat massive black bars!
Probably just a wee production error - HARDTalk is often a fast turnaround, so if something like that goes wrong, there's not a lot of time to sort it.

Yep, I'd cap it if I had a card. The one I ordered is Pal/freeview, so obviously doesn't work here in NTSC/ATSC

Why would you do a silly thing like that?

You live in the USA, I seem to recall reading a trillion times.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've noticed that the countdowns have all been much longer than usual lately i.e. most of them seem to be at least 25 seconds long - in fact I have seen more countdowns starting in the 40s in the last few days than I have since I started watching BBC World. Even a few months ago, the longest you'd normally see was about 20 seconds if you were lucky! The discontinued use of Earth TV seems to have had a big impact on the length of countdowns.

I could be way off the wall here but I'm beginning to think that they're doing it on purpose in order to exploit this unique feature of the channel. Its a very attractive way to introduce the top of the hour sequence and the music and visuals are pleasant to listen to and watch. I think they're seeing it as a way to promote the channel given the fact that it is the only international channel that uses such a feature at TOTH. It makes the channel stand out from its growing number of competitors. The same thing could be said for News 24 - countdowns above 30 or 40 are very common now and they made a huge deal out of the launch of the new countdown music back last May. Perhaps they no longer see the countdown as 'a waste of airtime' but more like a bonus feature of the channel which helps it to appear more unique.

I could be wrong but would anybody else tend to agree with me?

On News 24 this week the shortest one I seen was 7 seconds and the longest was around 50 seconds.

erm this is a television presentation forum - the countdown is an element of presentation. Arguably that's the kind of thing that should be discussed more here - a large proportion of the newsroom isn't really about pres.
