Whilst travelling in Europe earlier this month I was able to watch BBC world.
I normally watch News 24 and I found World to be of a much lower quality in terms of the look and presenters than news 24.
The two presenters I saw were an old bloke who seemed past it (Nick?) and young female presenter that looked dazed and seemed to have trouble pronouncing foreign names.
As I can’t normally watch this channel in the UK, I wondered why it was much poorer than the domestic output. Does the BBC use this channel, as it can’t be seen in the UK, as a way of training presenters, technicians, journalists etc until they’re good enough to work on proper news output?

Can any insiders shed any light?

Don't knock Gowing! He's great. Word has a much lower budget than News 24 but isn't a training ground for presenters. Of what I've seen, the presenters seem to be of similar quality (perhaps slightly higher for World) although it does vary. The two channels aren't very easy to compare though since both provide quite different services for different audiences.

Nope it's money and resources, which is why it looks like a poor mans News 24, the presenters you see are certainly not trainees though!

Anyone see that toth? some reporter done the intro then it all went well until after the opening titles, then it cuts to the reporter who was yelling at someone for about 10 seconds then looked aimlessly into the camera for another 20 seconds then done her intro which she had already done, then stared into the camera for about another 10 seconds, then it cut to Geeta (sp?) and she apologised for sound or something.

i did see that it was kim gattas (sp). what a mess it was. why they didn't go to Geeta first and then reporter as they always do. it is not as if there was a big name anchor there.

Yes, it was indeed Kim Ghattas in Beirut.

At the next TOTH - as you correctly stated Damo, Geeta completely forgot about Tanya Beckett sitting next to her, and she launched straight into the headlines. Tanya gave her a slight side-ways glance...........

She's done it twice to Manisha before she just recently returned. Maybe someone should tell her not to forget! When does WBR TWT and The World end for a christmas break? Will WNT take a break too? I seriously hope they change that second set over the holidays!

Yeah, I recognized it... Overnight (1am HKST) I saw her... Is this the first time she presented the news?

Is it me, or have they tweaked the NYC set, with a new red bar next to the cityscape?

On the left?

Interesting before, HardTalk was full 16:9 ... straps and all, but we got big fat massive black bars!
