I would have thought they relaunched with the new BBC logo in October 1997, like everybody else, especially with the Lambie-Narin branding police on the watch at the time.
They might not have rebranded just simply changed the logo on their previous graphics like the BBC1 News did. Having said that, BBC World may have escaped the branding police!

This Usenet Post seems to rule out World escaping the branding police - so the other options are a change of logo (highly unlikely seeing as LN would have already created World's graphics at the same time as N24's) or a relaunch.
When BBC World relaunched it's image along with news 24 in 2003, did they show the new look on the 0600 bulleting, after World Today, or have 3 more bulletings using the cream look and introducing the globe and ribbons at 0900 along with n24?

The World Today at 5am launched the new system on both BBC World and News 24.

Actually, it didn't. The re-launch rolled out at 0900 on both channels. So, that meant News 24's first bulletin after Breakfast and BBC World had 4 bulletins in the old look before the 0900 relaunch. IIRC, David Eades was the re-launch presenter. Anita McNaught did TWT, plus the three bulletins afterwards, from N6.

I remember The World Today, at 5am, was introduced with the new countdown but there was no change to the graphics/titles and music. That change, on News 24, occured after the Breakfast hand over.
I too prefer the old look - I’ve also wondered what the changing image
in
the plasma screen actually is! (some sort of prism!?) seemed more professional? before having the programme name actually present on screen. (Agreed it would be better if they had another plasma also)
How far away is ST/WBR/World set situated from the news desk?
The second set is just on the other side of the cameras. Not far away at all.
I agree with some of the comments here about the current set. I don't mind it that much, but I just find it to be a bit dull. At least with the old set, the newsroom seemed more real because it wasn't filtered by that frosted glass. It felt like the news was coming from right in the middle of the newsroom (which it was). Now, despite being in the same position, the set feels as though it is separate from the newsroom. It was also nicer having the gallery backdrop behind the presenter - not just coloured panels and glass. The camera shots also don't help - they are very boring. Every shot looks the same!
They should, however, install another screen on the other side of the desk and use the BBC NEWS logo as a screensaver, instead of that weird thing they have now. Has anyone noticed how they've stopped using the screen as an inset? During 2000-2002, the screen was used as an inset before and after breaks and for the closing headlines. Between 2002 and 2004, it was used for just the closing headlines. Once the new studio came in 2004 (and they ditched the closing headlines), they started using it for the introduction to some news reports with pictures/graphics displayed on it. However, they've stopped doing that now. The screen is only used for interviews.
It's good to see that they've finally rectified the syncronisation problem with the countdown. Towards the end of last week, the music was just under a full second out of sync with the video. Now all that has to be sorted is the main news titles. There are two main problems - the logos are the wrong way around (it should be BBC NEWS from BBC WORLD, not BBC WORLD from BBC NEWS) and the BBC WORLD logo is not correctly proportioned. It wouldn't be so noticeable if the other logo wasn't correct. The summary titles and half past sting are fine, though.
The camera shots also don't help - they are very boring. Every shot looks the same!
Some of the shots in the current newsroom are great! Apart from the main shot, the wide shot, and another shot from the biz presenters side... these shots below however are good i reckon. (some of these are from the first day in the new look newsroom)
Yes, the shots above are imaginitive, but what I don't like is the background. On all of those shots, the background is pretty much the same: red and white illuminated panels. At least with the old set/newsroom, each shot contained something different and unique in the background.
The top shot looks nice because they have added height to it, giving the shot more depth, but they forgot to put half the newsroom circle lights on, the bottom shot isn't so good, but they do have the lights on, making it look nice and bright, and as to the main titles, well I have said it a millions time, so I won't say it again, having said that they have had the titles the wrong way around for a long time now
I preferred the older set, and the previous headlines/stings and the ones from 2000, the current ones are just like News 24, boring really, the second set could be better, the projection screen does not make it look bright, and certain shots ie when Nik Gowing is interviewing someone on The World Today, looks awful, also some of the cameras I think need replacing, or maintaining, I don't know how to explain it, but it just dosen't look as crisp as BBC News 24 for example, and I am watching this off the same television set!
the biggest mistake, presentation wise, BBC News have made is to get rid of Lambie Nairn. The sets were warm and inviting yet authoritive and the titles / stings etc were excellent. The new titles are just basic and unimaginative compared to the previous era.
