There was a point, somewhere between the virtual look BBC World had at launch and the Flags, when they presented from right at the back of the newsroom. The camera would zoom in at the top of the bulletin. Can't date this particularly well, but programmes such as The World Today would have still been running. Can anyone jog my memory a little more...

There's a video clip floating around the web which shows Nisha Pillai presenting BBC World News in 1996 - and she's in the newsroom. They were also presenting from the newsroom when Diana died in August 1997. That was just before BBC News 24 launched, as BBC1 took BBC World overnight (the first time BBC World had ever been seen by domestic audiences). So, my guess is that they used the newsroom from 1995 to the present day. However, I have a clip somewhere of The World Today from the mid-1990s which show a virtual set-up somewhat similar to the BBC1 News look in the 1990s. Did they do World News from the newsroom but TWT from a studio? Maybe James will remember?
BBC World had flags before N24 launched (in Nov 1997), at this point BBC World was based in the second virtual studio and also had a newsroom set(?).
N24 moved to their current area in the News Centre in 1998 and altered their graphics slightly. World then adopted their last set of flag graphics and moved into their current home. I think the zooming shot the previous poster was referring too was during "The World Today" when World used the old N24 desk in their "2nd" presenting position.
World then rebranded in 2000 and then changed to their current look graphics in 2003.
That's all AFAIK and if anybody can shed any light on the "pre-1998" arrangements it'd be good!

There was a newsroom set but this was just AFAIK a CSO job - as I remember the cleaner being very big one day when they went up to the camera that fed the shot. But I will have to try and dig out some of my World Service Television VHSs - as it was BBC World Service Television in those days.
I feel that this shot is better than the 'standard' shot.
Same here, if half of the tvs can be seen and all of the bit on the right bit can see seen in the main shot then I like it better than anything. I don't the current main shot, I liked the old one much better.
I would have thought they relaunched with the new BBC logo in October 1997, like everybody else, especially with the Lambie-Narin branding police on the watch at the time.
