Actually, we are all taking for granted that the "return of an old face" will be someone who has left the BBC and who will come back. However, it could also be someone who previously transferred from BBC World to News 24, and who is coming back over - such as Liz Pike or Bill Turnbull or, even, Gwennan Edwards or Maxine Mahwhinney!

Indeed, James. It's easy to forget that many of the original BBC News 24 presenters started off at BBC World! Out of interest, what did Bill Turnbull do on the channel? Did he present BBC World News? When I started watching BBC News 24 in 1999/2000 he was co-presenting with Valerie Sanderson between 1300 and 1600.
EDIT - Also, did Peter Dobbie once present on BBC World in the past? I've read somewhere that he has but I never saw BBC World prior to 2000. Is he now confirmed as a permanent presenter on BBC World again since he left News 24?
On another note, can anyone tell me what's happened to David Jessel? Haven't seen him in quite a while. This is what I don't understand with BBC World: presenters just seem to disappear off the face of the Earth. For instance, the 1600-1800 shift is Nisha Pillai's. Who's doing it today? Jonathan Charles! This sort of things occurs regularly on BBC World.

IIRC, he used to do very rare live OB's from Washington for special events.
Yes, Peter Dobbie was a permanent anchor on World from 1996 to approx 2000. He used to be the lead presenter on BBC Newshour, alternating with Stephen Cole who did other days.

i hope she is the one. no other person comes to mind. she is wasting her good talent on Breakfast. just as Zain Verjee is on "The Situation Room" in the US. My guess she will return to CNNI. Both of them are beautiful, yet very crediable. She was very popular in America. i wouldn't be suprise if she's back.

But is returning to BBC World, not Breakfast, in January...
Is she? Oh dear. I must start a campaign to get BBC World in the UK then.

I mentioned the tendency of BBC World presenters to disappear without trace earlier in the thread. Well, in addition to David Jessel, I've thought of another one: Brian Hanrahan. Has anybody seen/heard him recently? He was mainly a reporter (either Diplomatic or World Affairs Editor) but also deputised on BBC World News from time to time as well as fronting The World on Fridays. I haven't seen Brian Hanrahan in a long time - does anyone know if he has retired?
