Hilarious report there by Mike Bushell (Sports Correspondent) being rolled down a hill inside a big inflatable ball, said to emulate a hamster on its wheel. (A new trend from NZ, called "Zorbing", I think).

Bushell's verbal outbursts during the piece were hilarious.

(Although not quite hilarious enough to allow Jonathan Charles to crack that icy exterior so much.....)

did you happen to see Sillito's report about those slides at Tate Modern wher he twats his head off the camera?

Does anyone know who the regular weekend anchors are on BBC WORLD? I know Alastair Yates is one, as he nearly always does Saturday and Sunday evenings. However, whenever I tune in at weekends (which is not that often) the other shifts seem to be covered by various anchors. Today was Jonathan Charles and Tony Campion (two excellent anchors, BTW - a strong day for BBC WORLD with those two and Alastair Yates). I remember a few years ago the weekends were nearly always presented by Anita McNaught, Adrian Finighan and Mike Embley. I wish BBC WORLD would get back to some sort of regularity at weekends because you never know who to expect these days.

Tony Campion seems to be a Saturday afternoon regular, or Tim if things are quiet over on News 24.
Karin Giannone usually Saturday overnight simulcast
Alistair Yates usually on Sunday evening.

They seem to be the most fixed shifts.

Guto in NY, Mike in London. Is he (Guto) presenting WBR?

No, Michelle Fleury presented the NY segments of WBR tonight, although Guto Hari did have a contributing report.

Michelle Fluery is absoluely terrible to watch and to listen to, I can't stand this woman,

Manisha Tank is one of the best of the NY presenters. Especially Dharshini.

Um, my aunt has cable vision, in Yonkers, so she has BBC World. It's pretty much the same things, except there are pretty much no ads since right now nobody wants to advertise on it. I don't have it, but I might be getting the canadian sattelite Bell Expressvu which has it.

Just to let everyone know that I've finally managed to hook up my old TV capture card again. I'm afraid I haven't got the time anymore to make regular video captures (I'll try to do so if there are any major events etc) but I'd be willing to do some image captures if anyone wants to see any particular aspect of BBC World presentation.

Yes, I was just thinking the same thing, Rob, i.e. that the weekend shifts are all over the place. Although, in some respects, I do enjoy the variety that appears. During this particular weekend, I think I have seen Tony Campion, Philippa Thomas, Jonathan Charles, Alastair Yates and Geeta Guru-Murthy??? (not sure about Geeta, though, but surely saw her on Friday, if not Saturday....)

Similarly, I recall the days when Messrs MacNaught and Finighan were the mainstays of the weekends, where they would alternate week on week, who did the opening and mid shifts on both Sat and Sun (as you said above, Mike Embley ALWAYS did the late shift on both days).

But former regular weekend slotters have all but disappeared - namely Anya Sitaram and Tim Willcox.

Still wondering who will be the old "face" returning to World........

Don't worry James, you are not going mad - Geeta was on last night. She has presented the Sunday evening shift for the last 2 weeks. Alastair did the Saturday evening, though.

Going back even further, I remember weekends being a mixture of Anita McNaught, Lyse Doucet, Lindsey Brancher, Keshini Navaratnam with Adrian Finighan in the evening. That was around the time they had the following weekday shift rota:

0600-1000 Martine Dennis/Lyse Doucet
1000-1400 Nik Gowing
1400-2000 Stephen Cole/Lindsey Brancher (an extremely long shift for a weekday compared to the current arrangement)
2000-0100 Philip Hayton

That format was used when I first started watching BBC WORLD in c.2000. Weekends have been the same since that time. Of course, that rota came from the pre-TWT days so the newsroom only started at 0600 instead of 0500. They also had to provide a BBC News bulletin at 2000 because The World did not exist.

I hope it's Mishal Husain. She was my favorite BBC World presenter during the 2001-2004 period. Her considerable talents as an international journalist and investigative reporter are being wasted on BBC Breakfast fluff. And American audiences remember her fine work on the PBS current event series Wide Angle from several years back . She could be a valuable asset in giving BBC World greater visability in the USA as it tries to launch on more cable systems around the country.
