Thankyou. That explains it. Lidl in Newtownabbey are selling a FTA satellite kit for £69.99. I might get it soon.

any DVB receiver will do for BBC World as it's FTA and occasionally BBC Prime.

I was surprised to see Geeta Guru-Murthy doing yesterday's evening shift, she's been away for some time. Nice to have her back.

I was surprised too. I wonder how long it has been since Geeta presented on BBC World? I don't think I've seen her in 2 years. She did a good job last night. I've always liked Geeta as a presenter.

I'm sure she did a few shifts last year.

Just out of interest, who is the main presenter of Asia Today- the editions at 2345 and 0330GMT if i'm right?

Usually the presenter on at that time, over night editions of Asia Today are repeats. in the Asia Pacific Region there are lots of repeats!

And as for Geeta it must of been start of last year at least when she was last on, I remember her doing the intro and forgot about Manisha so when manisha read the business headline she said "And i'm Manisha Tank, in business..."

Something must have happened to Martine Dennis this morning. She did the 0800 bulletin but at 0900 we've got Sally Bundock anchoring BBC World News on her own.

Sally is quite a good presenter though. She and Martine are a good team.

Just before I went out yesterday, I saw that Martine Dennis returned at 1000. Interesting to note that Martine was replaced by Lindsey Brancher today (IMO, one of the best anchors at BBC WORLD).

Couple of points about BBC WORLD which I have been meaning to post for a while:

1) I'm really enjoying World News Today. I like the way there is so much emphasis on news with less business and sport. I always feel that in the 25-minute BBC News bulletins throughout the rest of the day, there is not enough time dedicated to news (especially when your region takes two breaks per bulletin). The only thing I don't like is the headlines sequence - restarting the quarter head bed really doesn't sound right. Why can't they use the BBC News head vamp instead? Or the TWT vamp?

2) The weekday presenter rota seems to have changed quite a lot now, due to World News Today launching. Some presenters are on for 4 bulletins, others 3 bulletins and one presenter (usually Nisha Pillai) only seems to be on for 2! It hardly seems worth bringing Nisha in! Couldn't David Eades and Nik Gowing do an extra bulletin each?

3) What have they done with the weather forecasts? They rarely last over 60 seconds and give a very brief look at a couple of regions of the world. If you're very lucky, you get a map. On most occasions, though, they merely show viewers 4 cities! I found a recording of BBC WORLD from 2002 today and the weather forecast with Michael Fish lasted for about 3 minutes or so. They've definitely cut the weather back recently.

Don't forget Nisha also does Asia Today.

There are some more changes coming up, with the return of an old favourite and more editions of WNT planned.

Weather has been cut back a bit. I never really see the point of weather on a global News channel. It will never be applicable to where you are.

I can't stand the weather now on BBC World, its about 30 seconds long and doesnt really tells us much, they just say "for more weather, bbcworld.com" you'd think sky news would do that seein as they love promoting their site so much.
