And just because they do, doesn't mean I think they're right for doing it, although I would argue there may be a case for Al Iraqiya, depending on what the private sector in Iraq. I know the media landscape in Iraq is pretty diverse, but I don't know where things stand in terms of domestic TV channels in the country. Keeping in mind that in many respects, the US is the controlling authority for Iraq, the US spending money on public services in Iraq isn't entirely out of line.

The US Government already funds news channels such as the Pan-Arabian US Government sponsored Alhurra and also the US Military supported Al Iraqiya in Iraq.

Have you seen that? Seemed to me that the breakfiller said that starting September 18 there will be a 2000 CET edition of World News Today and a 30 mins edition of Sport Today at 2130 CET.
Sounds interesting (and totally unannounced) if I got that right.

Hmm, according to the listing's section on the BBC World website it will be broadcast at 2200 CET and like the 1300 CET edition includes a half hour of the WBR. That's a good move I think, makes sense to have another stand alone programme during the late night European/early morning Asia Pacific time slot. Does anyone know who will present?
