Is the world any different when it's just on World?
BTW - I've grown bored of "International News and Duck Discussion" as this threads tagline. Someone come up with a new one, that's quirky/fab. I won't accept boring stuff like "The BBC's International News Channel"

What programme has been aired on BBC4 instead of the 8pm edition of the World for the last two weeks?

Because I, as a license payer, wouldn't want my money wasted on a service that I can only see by booking myself into a foreign hotel!

I think the channel as a whole is wrongly branded.. 'World' seems to suggest that it broadcasts to an international remit which it doesn'treally compared to CNNI and much of World's output is London based... and why don't they invest in a proper set instead of that tiny lego set

I don't understand what question you're answering here. I'm pretty sure you know World isn't funded by the licence fee, so I don't know what you're getting at.

I think what he means is that for World to have a proper studio and improve its quality would require more funding which would come out from the licence fee, as the funding it gets now is not enough.

It's only a name. In the first place, it was called BBC World Service Television when it launched in 1991 as an extension of BBC World Service Radio. In 1995, they decided that the WSTV title was too long-winded so shortened it to the catchier BBC World. It isn't a literal name meaning it broadcasts to absolutely everybody in the world.

Poor BBC World, the little channel that could! It's been going in its current form for 11 years now, when you watch don't you feel like there is so much potential that its just not reaching for?
I think CNNi's international feel comes from the three different newsrooms it uses as the day progresses, and the same will be seen with four al-Jazeera International is set to use. The fact that BBCW comes from the one studio is very DW-TV! I believe the lack of foreign news studios creates a lack of foreign viewership, an investment in overseas studios (I think) would have a huge impact on attracting audiences. If only they didn't lack foresight!!!
