Rob,

I am quite appalled that certain things have slipped so much. Not what I expect from BBC World, to be honest. BBC World has a great bunch of people working for them and the standard of journalism offered is faultless. However, there have clearly been several cuts in the production side of things, and when you don't have enough people on hand to ensure a credible product is delivered CONSISTENTLY, then errors will be made. Sadly, it is becoming more frequent, as you correctly noted, and the TOTH is normally where it goes wrong.

BTW, I am miles from a tv - are they (BBCW) rolling with the Castro story, or is it regular programming?

HARDtalk was cancelled at 0930 GMT in order to allow further coverage of the Castro resignation and the results of the Pakistani election. I've just tuned in again a little after 1030 and Fast Track has been substituted for a live press conference with President Bush in Kigali. I'm glad to see BBC World rolling with all this news rather than playing out pre-recorded programmes - they've definitely made the correct decisions today.

However, a small let-down just before 1000. One of the breakfiller segments was Barbara Plett promoting the Pakistani election: "Join me for more on 18th February" Rolling Eyes It's small things like that which chip away at BBC World's overall image. It's a shame, like you said James, because the journalistic standard is consistently high - it's just let down by production errors.

Yet another TOTH screwed up, again with erroneous headline straps played out over the wrong headline - WNT with Lyse Doucet and Nik Gowing showed a Fidel Castro strap over wrong headline.

You know why I think these problems with TOTHs have increased? I think it is because the TOTH sequences have become too complicated. When I started watching World in 2000, cock-ups were pretty rare. The TOTH sequence consisted of a headline vamp, the pictures of the stories and the titles. Now, they've added swiping astons, a punctuating graphic between each headline and re-start the headline vamp over and over (on WNT). It's obviously become to complex - they should definitely try to simplify it. I'd rather have simplicity if it meant that cock-ups occured less frequently.

Al presented the TWT shift this morning, I must say he looked much happier and relaxed than on his overnight shifts.

And...................you've guessed it, yet ANOTHER TOTH cocked-up a few moments ago. Same problem. Headline strap frozen over the wrong story and the entire titles. An occurrence that we see now almost four times a day!

And, when we eventually got to the newscaster for the first story, apparently she had changed her name to LYCE DOUCET.

BBC World - are you going to get this sorted? It's beyond a joke now. And, from what I read over on the other threads, N24 and the Nationals are not having it any better either.

Not what one expects from the World's most prestigous broadcaster.

Well they are into automated systems and they have only one person controlling it, so the likelyhood of going wrong is big, it's either this or having it manned by a traditional gallery which costs money.

I notice greater than normal use of the plasma wide-shots in today's bulletins presented by Tanya Beckett. Quite a large proportion of stories are being read from that angled shot than we would normally see during weekdays.

I am saddened to hear that Dharshini David has quit BBC World. Dharshini is to take up a role as "Broadcasting Manager" for the Tesco group.

It's a shame the BBC is losing such an asset and us viewers of BBC World will miss the lady (not least her off-camera preparations with co-anchor David Jessel).

Shame...

Newsnight is on the EPG for right now, and the website schedule says so too... anyone actually seeing it now or all just seeing The World Uncovered?

Schedule must be wrong for NZ. At the time of posting, it's on now.

Not sure about the presentation compared to Newsnight on BBC 2 (from what I have seen via the Newsnight site). The logo doesn't match (uppercase, font is similar to DIN). The background is more of a mix of purple and red than the traditional night time shot with the light trails.

The title graphics were nice though (using the Newsnight theme).
