The studio guest on WNT last evening let it slip that his interviewer (Lyse Doucet) would be travelling to Pakistan during the next couple of days, describing her as "an old hand, when it comes to Pakistan".
Ms. Doucet blushed visibly.
At least we'll now know who will be anchoring live from Pakistan next week during the elections! (as if we didn't know already.)
Has anyone seen these new opt out sting, it had the World News Today white background with white BBC World Putting News First text, it looked absolutely awful and you can't even read the text!

Not new. Well at least not in my region! and its just a WNT version of the normal opt out too!
My personal favourite era of BBC World will always be April 2000-2002. I think the channel was perfect then before they started tinkering with the breakfiller, music, graphics, etc. The original David Lowe music for the channel during that era was (and probably still is) the greatest music he composed. It's such a pity they didn't keep the original 2000 breakfiller music a little longer than two and a half years. All of its successors haven't been a patch on it. I also liked the 10 second countdown from that era, even if it was a bit pointless.
By the way, while we're strolling down memory lane, can anyone tell me when the current Asia Today look/music was first used? I know the programme had a different theme tune for much of the 1990s but the current one has been used since at least 2000 - did it stetch back any further, though?
Also, can anyone remember roughly how long the 'World Sport' programme lasted before it was rebranded as Sport Today? Did it get the axe within 2000? For those who don't remember, for a while after the April 2000 relaunch the sports programme was branded like BBC News - I think there's a video example on TV Ark.

Same here, BBC World won't be the same again as regards to presentation, those were definitely the best years in terms of the channels presentation.
It would probably look a bit better with a shadow behind it so people can actually read it.
Also, can anyone explain to me why BBC World News America is only shown on BBC News 24 for 30 minutes, instead of the 1 hour programme. What they could do is show the other 30 minutes an hour later on N24.
For people who can't get hold of the hour show, where is it available to watch in good quality, besides the BBC World website.
It couldn't have been better - Lyse Doucet anchoring the bulletin live from Pakistan. Nisha Pillai heading up the London end of things. Top story is the Pakistan elections. Even a new set of titles was played (albeit a series of stills played to the BBC World news theme music) to signify the special broadcast.
And what happens??
Pres manages to screw up the ticker, dog and headline strap (about "Diana Inquest"), which remained on screen all the way through the special Pakistan title sequence and well into Lyse's first seconds of delivery.
BBC World - you must rank as the worst offender when it comes to screwing up the intro of your news bulletins. You seem now to specialise in this and one wonders just how you manage it. It's a rarity on other channels. But BBC World loves to mess it up.

That's very true, James. Just yesterday a TOTH sequence completely fell apart, leaving Peter Dobbie fumbling around trying to work out what was going to happen next (obviously not his fault - the gallery obviously didn't know what was going on). Several VTs failed one after the other - it's just not a good enough service. I don't ever remember this sort of thing happening on BBC World in years gone by. It's just the in the last year or two that this sort of thing has started happening regularly. Indeed, News 24 used to be the laughing stock of this forum when it started because they constantly bodged things. However, they pulled their socks up and technical errors are pretty few and far between now.
I was just thinking about the upcoming rebrand of BBC News - I hope they don't touch the WBR/HARDtalk/Asia Today theme music. It's bad enough that they recently changed the Sport Today and Reporters/This Week themes to, in my opinion, far inferior versions. There was nothing really wrong with the old themes - in fact, they were excellent compositions and I know I certainly wasn't tired of hearing them. Put it this way, I could easily hum the old themes without even hearing the music. I honestly couldn't do it for the new stuff - it's really drab and not memorable. If nothing else, please let them keep WBR and Asia Today as they are because they are well-established, instantly recognisible themes.
Id like a new look WBR the current is crap, but keep the music. Same for Asia Today, I don't think it would be right for them to ever change the music!
