Thanks for the information. Is there a press release about that? When will this all happen?

No idea about a press release - but it has been widely publicised internally in the BBC.

Internal changes - a result of the proposed merger of Radio, TV and Online newsrooms - have already started (common editorial meetings etc.) and physical changes to the newsroom, studios and galleries are due to take place throughout the first half of 2008.

The three remaining main studios are all getting upgrades - new vision mixers for all three for example - and there will obviously need to be training and piloting for News 24 moving to a new studio and gallery.

It is a big plus for BBC World even if N24 and the National programmes loose out.

World gets a bigger studio and newsroom space- closer to the heart of BBC News in News Centre.

well it will have improved lighting for starters, it's always looked a little dark where they currently are.

It was very bright when they renovated in 2004, that last a few months in that condition, then the desk light went off, then the round ceiling lights, then lights in the walls, then the round lights came back on but its still getting darker!

I never liked that red wall on Mishal's left side.

If it wasn't there then it would all look hideous, I can't see why people don't like this shot...

Where is Lucy Hockings? Is she still with the channel?
She's been placed as a "Past Presenter" on this site: http://www.tvnewsroom.co.uk/nz/bbcworld/bbcworld-section.php?id=presenters

I really don't like seeing stories other than the Iowa caucus being covered by the streets of Des Moines. It's just annoying to see Matt Frei standing there at the Iowa caucus and reading about what's happening in Kenya or Pakistan. Having another presenter in the Washington or London studio would have been a better choice.

I think that's for the benefit of the US audience - when the domestic services there go out, all the stories are presented from there.

Indeed, ABC World News with Charlie presented their one item of world news from the same location, with a massive story insert.

Personally, I don't so much mind if its in a studio or on location - just as long as theres a broad overview of day's happenings.
