I am most disappointed that there will be programme cuts on BBC World...im aware that this maybe necessary in order to accommodate budget cuts but I have always been impressed with the standard and variety of current affairs and other programmes and will be so sad to see them go! Its a pity there couldnt be some way to keep them! Maybe the BBC ought to consider going commercial...

I assume there is some irony there... BBC World IS commercial...

Most of the popular programs are sponsored like click, fast track and Formula for Success . We will probably see more programs sponsored so as to stay afloat. The ones that are not commercially viable like dateline london, Hardtalk extra will be axed.

"going commercial" in a wider sense...as in sponsors for most if not all programmes & advertisements in place of breakfillers! I KNOW MOST OF U WILL NOT AGREE WITH THIS!!!! but if this will result in saving those programmes that are to be axed! then...why not!?...

What a bizarre comment. You say that as if BBC World chooses to air breakfillers instead of commercials. The breakfiller is as it sounds- it fills the space as the sustaining feed for when advertising slots have not been taken up.

I'm sure that BBC World would love nothing more than to be able to do away with the breakfiller entirely and fill all that time with lovely cash-generating adverts, but in order to get that point, they will need to continue to increase their audience so that they can persuade more advertisers to pay for commercial slots.

It's not simply a case of BBC World suddenly deciding to get rid of the breakfiller and fill the breaks with commercials overnight - these things take time.

Most of the day BBC WORLD as a channel is running ads. The difference is with the feeds. When it is in the middle of the night in Europe, Latin America, Carribean and North America are running Ads because it is their primetime, as well as morning Asia/ Pacific.
After that south Asia and the Middle East are running ads due to the morning time. Next is European Morning, then it all happens again with North and South America morning and Primetime Asia. Follow by South Asia and the Middle East. Then it is Europe and Africa Primetime. If it was a one feed like France24 and Al jazzera then everyone will see ads 24/7 but companies don't want that, they want regional specifications. Also europe has the highest ad rate, next Asia Pacific. some companies can't afford to pay for the global rate.

Why dose he never present world news anymore he did some relife shifts on N24 a few months ago.But when I was out of the uk on holidays ect between 1999-2003 i used to se him on world news all of the time and n24
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bKWXrq-2A2g there.he is still a relife on newsnight but he is rerly seen because there are so many newsnight stand-ins including half of the production team.

I wonder why world were using the BBC 1 national bed and titles on that day. Confused:

I suspect you saw him on News 24 between 1999 and 2003 because he was a News 24 main presenter at this time (He was 1600-1900 at launch, with Sian Williams, and also presented the later evening shows, including News 24's Ten O'Clock News with Sarah Montague).

After Jeremy Vine left Newsnight, to move to Radio 2, Gavin moved to replace him on Newsnight, and stopped being a regular News 24 presenter.

When the 1700-1800 hour started, with Huw Edwards mainly presenting this slot, Gavin returned to cover it, as it is a flagship bit of the News 24 output.

One of the reasons why some of the programmes on BBC World will be ending is because they are funded by both BBC Worldwide for BBC World and BBC News for output on BBC News 24. If BBC News decides to stop funding the programme then BBC Worldwide would have to find the extra funds to continue making these shows. It may not make economic sense to do this.

Dearest 'BBC LND'...i was in no way implying nor did i think that BBC WORLD could or would do away with breakfillers overnight & replace them with fancy commercials! But the suggestion meant a long term business strategy which would include a phased increase of more income generating adverts that could see the upkeep of programmes that may otherwise be cut because of no funds! so...its not as bizarre as u think Sir! take it from a media executive in a similar entity as the bbc in another commonwealth country...its "do-able"
