Thanks.
I watched the recorded half-hour on N24 and was very impresssed. Matt wasn't as bad as I expected and the presentation was nice.
By-the-way does anyone have a capture of the close? Would be nice to see how they ended it. Thanks.

Very nice music. Although I was under the impression that World News America was about american news.

Not that impressed to be perfectly honest. I think the music is way over the top...definitely nowhere near to David Lowe's best work (in fact, it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out to be an in-house re-mix, as it sounds so bad). The set has hardly changed and Matt Frei looks like he's just about to drop off the end of the desk. What's the point of having a huge oval desk only to perch him awkwardly at one end?
As for the agenda, not what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be predominantly domestic US news. In reality, despite the "World News America" title, it featured comparatively little in the way of domestic US news. I really don't get BBC World's current fascination with these World News Today programme strands. There's bugger all different about them compared to a general BBC News bulletin, except for flashy titles and different music. The news reports are exactly the same only reshuffled in order depending on which region's edition it is. In a way, that is turning me off the channel. I used to be able to tune in to BBC World at any time of the day and get a balanced edition of BBC News. Now, I'm trying to avoid these WNT programmes because they're too focussed on one particular region. This afternoon, I arrived home and wanted to catch up with the bulletin at 5pm. I'd forgotten that this was a WNT designed for Asia. All the top news stories were skewed to Asia. Given that I'm not particularly interested in Asia, it is a complete turn-off for me. I just want a balanced edition of news (i.e. ranked on importance rather than region). Is that too much to ask?

Yes, you're right. Here's the current line-up:
UK time

2300 BBC News London/Washington (America evening)
As you can see, there are far too many region specific programmes now. I try my best to avoid them now, even the European ones, as I don't want unbalanced programmes. As I said earlier, I want the agenda to be determined by the importance of the story, rather than the region the programme is aimed at. They may think people in each region are only interested in their own region, but they would be wrong. I don't know about everyone else, but I watch BBC World to find out what's going on around the globe. That's why I've always been annoyed by the "streaming", i.e. creating different streams of the channel for each region. So, during peak Europe times, they replace news with adverts, however, the rest of the world will see the news instead. Therefore, I feel as though I am missing out on some news for the sake of adverts. I know BBC World needs adverts to survive, but it was far better before where the whole world took a break at the same time.

I think BBC World was better when it just used to have The World Today in it's schedule (back in the late 90's). All these World News Today's just seem to interupt the channel flow. Like Rob says it shouldn't be region specific as this doesn't work on a global channel. I don't understand why BBC World News America isn't just broadcast on BBC America? Ok maybe it has something to do with audience reach and the availability of BBC America in the U.S? I think there used to be 3 The World Today's on BBC World's weekday schedule but it's as if we are heading for every hour to be branded at someone else. Asia Business Report is only broadcast in that region so why is BBC World News America seen as a global needed broadcast?

Yep, have to agree with you David. The way the channel is going, they're going to end up like the American channels where every hour is branded as a different programme. That really irritates me with CNN and FOX News. For instance, Business International on CNN is a misleading title. It's basically an hour of world news with a few more trips to the LSE. It's blatently obvious that BBC World is just trying to rip-off CNN with its World News Europe/Asia, Your World Today, but for me, that's a big turn-off. There was nothing wrong with BBC World but they've tinkered with its format for the sake of it. It was refreshing to be able to go to a channel for a standard, balanced, non-branded world news bulletin. Sadly, that's more difficult now...

Why was the version of World News America shown on News24 so short tonight? It was only about 15 minutes long. Is it always going to be that short or was it cut down for breaking news reasons?
