I spoke too soon. Middle East has the new breakfiller from this afternoon.

I wish we hadn't. It's hideous.

I love the new breakfiller, I don't get why so many people hate it. Anything is better than the last one.
The greaphics go nmice with the new look, the music is very BBC and I love the promos uin full screen. I wish they would show much more real promos like they used to .

I'm getting used to it but my big gripe is the disappearance of the now/next information and the countdown to the end of the break. Those two things were very useful. For instance, I was only half-watching at the end of the 1600GMT bulletin just then (I usually 'zone out' when the sport comes on, as I have no interest in that!) and I don't recall Jonathan Charles mentioning what was coming up at 1630GMT. There is a coming up slide of the breakfiller, but it didn't happen to be shown during that break and I was forced to turn to Ceefax to find out what was on next. Sadly, my receiver only displays the 'now' EPG data; 'next' doesn't display anything for BBC World for some reason.

Weird nobody really 'announced it' here which is unusual. it just sort of happened it seems.

It's definitely surprising that its totally different and not just a "new version" or update. It took me a few breaks to get my head round it.

You don't necessarily know its a break when you see a full screen trailer now. I think that makes it look a lot less like a filler so that's good so it means it doesn't feel like the channel has gone to sleep for a few minutes.

I always think when your in a hotel room and you flick channels if you see the break countdown on World you don't bother even watching the trails. You just carry on flicking for a few minutes. But it would be nice to always see what will come after the break. Sometimes they don't tell you that anywhere in the sequence.Or it is only at the end from what i saw so far.. so you would be about to find out anyway!

In the old one there was so much going on with a trail and temperatures and business info and times for the trailer prog and a sponsor logo and countdown and name of next programme.. way to busy. Now you get a full-screen trail with no captions, ticker or other moving distractions and only a soft logo.. so its a bit of a surprise but i thought that was a good sign of stopping that crazy bloomberg and fox style!

The music sounds like a different bit for every section and maybe after some time it will be obvious when the news or time bit is on even if you are not looking. At least it's not just the same track played to death and cutting off at the end. Plus it also breaks the monotany a bit.

Sometimes it is to quiet so maybe the music is on each video and not playing all from the same place. Anybody here know how it is done?

Who's operating the sound on BBC World this morning? I watched the 0900 GMT bulletin and the headline bed crashed the title music, then at 0915 GMT the opt sting crashed with the quarter heads bed and actually continued to run until after the headlines recap. I've just tuned in to see the 1000 GMT top of the hour and exactly the same thing has happened again! To add to that, they mucked up the 0900 GMT opening by getting the pictures out of sequence and even showing a cricket score slide instead of images for the story!

The 1 minute headlines at 0530 were a mess too.. the final 10 seconds were Putin talking in Russian (very quiet) and presenter not saying anything but microphone was on then camera went back to her and immediately the ident came in.

AFAIK if the presenter takes more than a minute to read the headlines or if the picture stuffs up before theres a chance to fix it then when it hits 60seconds itll cut straight to the ident... i'm sure someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

Interesting cos when they go to breaks on BBC World, and Asia Pacfic don't in the background in the gallery you can still see the old one playing on a screen, I wonder why your Asian region hasn't changed.

When it was first announced (I think by you) that the breakfiller had changed, I checked on the European version of BBC World and they were still using the old breakfiller. It was only yesterday that I first saw it on the Europe feed. I suspect the Middle East will change soon.

On a separate note, does anyone else think the BBC Weather is too short? When I first watched BBC World in 2000 and until about 2005, the weather forecasts were decent - fairly long, and covered several areas of the world in depth. Now, though, they are a mere 45 seconds long and only briefly cover three regions, sometimes even without a map! I fully understand, as I was told by BBC World Customer Relations, that an international news channel is not the best place to look for weather, however, it is nice to find out what's happening around the world, especially in areas where friends/relatives live and places you like going to on holiday. I really think BBC World should decide to either beef up the forecasts again or scrap them altogether, as currently they are practically worthless.

I don't think I've ever watched a full weather forecast. I'm not even interested in my own region's weather, I definitely don't care about what's the weather like in Botswana! Before travelling I sometimes have a look to the forecast on one of the many specialised websites which provide extremely detailed forecasts, very different from the ones you see on international news channels.
The only good thing I liked about the BBCWorld weather was the old sting, now it's gone and I wouldn't mind if they scrapped the weather all together.
I have to say, though, Aljazeera's forecasts are worth seeing for their astounding music. The old music bed on Euronews was great too.

Have to say BBC World really does bad on the weather - it's too short and I dont think the forecast is useful to me. CNN's and AJE's are definitely better.

An interesting definition of ruining, when the ad take is up 46% this year and the audience is up to 76 million each week!
