Since it is in quotes I guess you are quoting a source - any chance you could post the link to that press release or article to substantiate and for completeness?

Thanks indeed

Here is the press release for the new breakfiller

Sounds very interesting... what do people think of the current look/sound?

The current breakfiller? Definitely needs a revamp. The colours don't match anymore with the current red and black (though I think the orange-black era looked much better). Plus, the music, although nice, has been aired for a very long time. And I think the previous one was more appropriate for a news channel, more paced.
I have to say, though, that many of the changes in the look of the channel in the last few years have actually been very disappointing (the new set, countdown, weather sting, etc.)

Am I missing something here? Why is this of interest in relation to a BBC World discussion? Sure, it's a recreation of one of the old countdowns, but it's just a mock.

Jonathan Charles is even on Hardtalk. Is this his first interview for the programme?

The old countdown really looked great. The music was better too.

Regarding the Newsroom from 1999 until 2003 - the "Ivory & Red Era" the newsroom was tweaked at least three times:

Arrow They replaced the Newsdesk
Arrow They added two red columns infront of the gallery
Arrow They removed the cream board that was behind the presenter, where they put the metal railing.

This was the original presenter view (note the cream board behind the presenter and the lack of the two red columns) - Image from TV Ark

This is the view from the final set tweak, until they introduced the completly new set in 2003 - Image TV Ark

Just out of curiousity does anyone know why they kept changing it?

I think it looked much better with the cream board. The N24 set then was great. World's set was too dark.

I hate to nitpick, but I keep seeing people say the china red/cream look on BBC World was introduced in 1999. It wasn't. Nationals and News 24 got it in 1999; BBC World got it in April 2000.

If I recall, the set remained intact between April 2000 and August 2001. That's when the desk was changed to the 'bumper cars' version. I visited BBC World's newsroom on the first weekend of September that year (I think it was the 1st Sept.) and they had just installed the new desk ready for the launch of The World Today on that following Monday morning. That's also when they removed the panel behind the set, as it definitely wasn't there when I visited. Other changes included replacing the red panel to the right of the presenter's plasma screen with a mirror, and building in a plasma screen for the business/sport presenter.

The next change to the newsroom was in Spring 2002, when the red pillars were added either side of the entrance to the gallery. They contained several TV screens which you can see in the above shot.

I think it pretty much remained like that until October 2004 when the whole thing was gutted and replaced with the luminous white and red look which survives until this day.

And when should we expect some further changes? Any idea?

I noticed during overnights that the BBC World dog and ticker were alot lower than normal again... but it appears to be original height again.

The current set is cold and lifeless, I much preferred the older 2000 setup, when the newsroom looked bigger.
