See the news 24 thread - there has been a powercut at TVC, News 24 and World were simulcasting with Chris Eakin in Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, they then were able to go back to Jon Sopel in TC7 (newsnight/working lunch studio) with the Working Lunch desk and layout using Worlds background from when they use the studio!
Thanks. Has anyone seen the 1500BST top of the hour? I guess it was a simulcast with N24 (maybe preparing the World studio for the new edition of WNT later today). I tuned in at about 1515 and there was a surreal scene of Chris Eakin in a flooded English town who just did not know what to say and admitting he'd lost contact with the studio decided to cover the huge story of a lorry passing by a flooded street.
Then Jon Sopel with an anonymous background I had never seen.
And 3 DOGs at the same time (N24's one and the two World's ones).

Have they ever used the WNT/WBR studio as back up to the BBC World main news studio? I know its not the finest set in the TC but its better than nothing.

Yes, they used it during the weekdays for a few weeks back in late 2004 when the main newsroom was getting renovated. But the desk was a banana then.

Isn't this second set directly opposite the main set, and bringing it into use just means swinging the cameras around and turning different lights on? So its helpfulness during a technical failure in N9 would be limited.

Yea its right infront of the presenters so if the cameras turned around we would see the set.
Nik Gowing crossed live just then to Nick Miller at the weather centre... good to see the graphics in 14:9 compared to the 4:3 crap we see in the normal forecasts.
