With me Tim Willcox ... yes on BBC WORLD!

However - just one MINOR glitch - he is clearly hesitant when it comes to saying the channel name. He kinda pauses a little bit to make sure he says WORLD instead of News 24, if you know what I mean....LOL

Yea I noticed that too at the 7am TOTH he seemed unsure what to say but eventually BBC World came out!

They can not close the news like that, most of the broadcast on BBC WORLD especially the first half hour is transmitted on many stations form the US (PBS), and various african countries tv stations.

David Jessel can not tell viewers in the US, " I will be back after the weather with the world news........ stay with us". The pause in between the time the presenter say whats comming up is the time the other stations opt out.
After that here in the US the station list all the sponsors and companies that brought the program. That is how it closes.

I would love to see a proper close, but i don't see it coming in the near future. BBC world has too many contractual agreements with other broadcasters.

BBC World can always do a proper closing after the opting out.

'For more details, always turn to BBC News.com...' *anchor pauses* (OPTS OUT) 'and coming up next on BBC World, its HardTALK' (Closing titles)

Well they want us to stay to see their 3 minutes of commercial after the weather. CNN break is not as long as World break when the news ends.

She has been doing daytime and evening business shifts on News 24 for quite some time now. She also presented STORYFix the other week.

Umm yes they can close the bulletin like that no matter where in the world you are watching apart from the US, have you not noticed there is a pause after saying bbcnews.com? thats obviously when the US opt out, because after that the presenter says whats up next then after the presenter says whats next there is nothing stopping them from doing a proper closing, without actually saying goodbye.

here is a quick mock closing, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1VX793M_eg
instead of him saying what he does say in that video, the presenters can say 'coming up next its reporters blah blah blah, ill be back with the headlines in a few minutes. first though, a look at world weather with 'presenter'stay with us here on bbc world"

the last part of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYrhA63DAAI would be the ideal normal close for BBC World

Thats because CNNi have about 5 ad breaks in 25minutes.

ROME HARTMAN APPOINTED TO CREATE SIGNATURE NIGHTLY NEWSCAST FOR THE BBC

The BBC has appointed former CBS News producer, Rome Hartman, to develop and serve as executive producer of a new BBC World News one-hour nightly newscast aimed at U.S. audiences, which will be available exclusively on BBC AMERICA and the 24-hour global BBC World News channel.

The U.S.-anchored program represents a major initiative by BBC AMERICA, now in over 55 million homes, to showcase the best of BBC journalism for American audiences and it will be a cornerstone of the weekday evening schedule.

In addition to overseeing the nightly newscast, Hartman will advise on and coordinate production of other U.S.-based and U.S.-facing newscasts for BBC AMERICA and BBC World News.

Multiple Emmy® Award winner, Hartman, was most recently executive producer of The CBS Evening News and a producer of 60 Minutes. He will base the new BBC World News broadcast out of the BBC’s news bureau in Washington, D.C., uniting the BBC’s world-renowned global reports with U.S. based presentation, analysis and comment. This signature newscast is scheduled to begin airing this fall.

Garth Ancier, President, BBC Worldwide America, says, “This is the perfect match. With more than 2,000 journalists and 250 correspondents, BBC News has the world’s foremost newsgathering operation and an unrivalled reputation for impartial, accurate and in-depth reporting. Rome is one of America’s most respected news producers. He will bring vast experience and passion to the BBC and its audience in America.”

Sian Kevill, Editorial Director, BBC World, says, “BBC World News currently attracts around 76 million viewers a week from around the world. This program will be a fantastic addition to the channel’s news schedules enabling us to tailor our programming for key regions and bringing us closer to our audiences.”

Rome Hartman adds: “It’s a true honor to join what is undoubtedly one of the best, most ambitious broadcast news organizations in the world. More and more Americans are seeking smart and sophisticated coverage of the world; coverage the BBC is uniquely capable of providing. Finding new ways to bring the fine work of BBC journalists around the globe to a growing American audience is an incredibly exciting challenge.”

He will report to Richard Porter, Head of News, BBC World and work closely with Sian Kevill, Editorial Director, BBC World, Garth Ancier, President BBC Worldwide America and Michele Grant, Senior Vice President, BBC News and Sport (US).

Could this be a new WNT? Damo, help me out, please!

Yes. it is WNT that will come out of Washington. Rome will "develop" this newscast and oversee production for the 10pm EST 3 way show between DC-London-Singapore and all other broadcasts originating in or aimed at the US market.
