I am right in thinking this shall clash with the new World News Today with Zeinab?

I imagine that reference to 7pm is US time (east coast). That would make it 2300 GMT (currently 0000 BST here).

BBC World is really bolstering its coverage and improving its output. They must be making lots of money to be hiring some one like Hartman. I am sure he comes with a heavy price.

Isn't this ironic when CNN is cutting staff and most of its people leaving especially Asia/Pacific region. BBC WORLD is adding more one hour bulletin and spending more.

Hope they can be on more cable and satellite platforms here in the US.

Rome Hartman, the executive producer of the CBS Evening News while it was anchored by Bob Schieffer and Katie Couric -- until he was replaced by Rick Kaplan last March -- is developing a one-hour evening newscast for the BBC aimed at U.S. audiences, the BBC reported on its website today (Tuesday). The program will focus on international news. Hartman said that there was a "growing appreciation" among the American public of the impact of international events. But Andrew Tyndall, whose Tyndall report tracks U.S. newscasts, told the British broadcaster, "The virtue of the BBC is that it isn't American. So hiring an American to give it a more American feel could be counter-productive."

Didnt Hartman come up with that awful segment called "free speech" on cbs news?

He did indeed do it. Hopefully he make changes slowly not as CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. The viewers left right away.

Frankly BBCW has an unacceptable coverage for the middle east chaos now , there is no reporters in Gaza nor in Beirut despite Kim Ghattas is there but it's useless and it does not rival for CNN or AJE

Well, BBC World did have the only permanent reporter in Gaza, but he was kidnapped. I would have thought the BBC are fairly apprehensive about sending another reporter into Gaza, given what has happened to Alan Johnston. I've been watching BBC World over the last few days and have found their coverage to be excellent, as usual, with or without a reporter in Gaza.

Did you see Matthew Price report yesterday in the mist of Hamas and Fattah. It was excellent and scary to say the least. This comes after Allan Johnston kidnapping. Kim Gattas in Beirut did an excellent job. BBC WORLD always have better coverage than anyone else when it comes to the Isreali and Palastine conflict and other middle eastern issues. BBC has more reporters than CNN in the middle east. I am sorry but that is not true.

eg. Lyse coverage of the 6 day war recently. CNN try to send Ms. Fionula (sp) to coverge the same war. It was awful. You cannot compare her to Lyse Doucet.

I tried putting that through the Babelfish online translation service, but wasn't sure which language it was in to start with. Tried French, Spanish and Italian, but it couldn't make head nor tail of it.
