Erm....didn't he used to prior to CNN?!
He did - on World Business Report at least. I seem to recall that his on-screen partnership with Paddy O'Connell worked extremely well on the WBR before Quest left for CNN.
That was I think the original partnership for WBR, Paddy and Richard, unless I am wrong.

I like him, he's got an energy not seen in other boring BBC World presenters (except Nisha Pillei). What would you say if Richard Quest was to present on BBC World. I think someone could get a heart attack.

You are correct. If you remember they always ended with something like "we're the business". After Quest left it was Mishal who stepped into the lime light.

Opening, stings and close of World News Today with Zeinab... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4ChQ5FzCO8 (give the link a chance to process)

Mmm... I'm loving that music, it's really a very nice evolution of the BBC News theme.
I'd just like it if the titles did a bit more, visually they're impressive, but just a bit staid, in that nothing much happens after the glass pops outwards apart from the globe rotating.

Did they still use a different opening tune for the "lunchtime" edition of World News Today than for the "evening" edition today?

They did. And tonight's opening was different from last night's one, as it began with Zeinab Badawi welcoming us to the programme and introducing herself (kinda like the regular bulletins used to be before last January).
What I find totally absurd is that the new titles for WNT would match perfectly with the regular set and instead they keep on using that dark set whose colours are totally different.
I noticed the 2000GMT bulletin now includes both business and sport segments, presented by the business and sport presenters. Not sure about the sport one but the business segment is definitely something now at that hour.
