There are more editions of WNT coming as the latest press release confirms
"Zeinab Badawi - new face of BBC World’s European evening news
- World News Today launches at 2000 CET -
London, Monday 21 May. BBC World, the international news and information channel, launches another of its flagship hour-long news programmes World News Today, targeting European evening time peak. The live programme will broadcast globally each weekday from
29 May, and will air across Europe at 2000 CET on the 24-hour BBC World channel.
The new family of 60-minute World News Today programmes deliver the most in-depth, analytical news in global broadcasting. The programming line-up will give audiences around the world the news they want, when they want it.
BBC World’s monthly audience across Europe continues to grow, according to the latest results published by EMS[1]. World News Today will target the 9.8 million Europeans who tune in to BBC World on a monthly basis with breaking news and updates on global events, in-depth analysis by prominent commentators, and interviews with leading newsmakers and opinion leaders.
Zeinab Badawi is the current presenter of The World at 2100 CET on BBC World as well as regularly hosting The World Debate. She will now front the new hour-long World News Today programme each week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. An internationally acclaimed television and radio presenter, she has been in broadcasting for more than 20 years and has worked on an impressive range of programmes for the BBC and other broadcasters.
Jeremy Hillman, BBC World news editor says, "World News Today is compulsory viewing for anyone who wants to keep on top of global news and current affairs. The hour-long format allows us to retain the depth of analysis and impartiality of coverage, for which BBC World is known throughout the world. The World News Today, which replaces Zeinab’s current half-hour weekday The World programme, gives her the ideal platform to uncover the news behind the headlines and address the key news stories of the day in more depth.”
BBC World will also introduce two further editions of World News Today at 1700 and 0400 CET in September as part of the channel’s plan to establish regular, branded, hour-long news programmes throughout the day to ensure BBC World delivers tailored news programming during key breakfast and evening peak-times across all time zones."

2130 GMT - World Business Report
As you can see, The World has been removed. WNT has been moved to an earlier slot. An extra BBC News bulletin has been added. When I heard that The World was going to be replaced by WNT, I assumed that there would be an extra WNT, in addition to the one at 2000 GMT. That is not the case. There is still only going to be one WNT (albeit earlier) with an extra BBC News bulletin replacing The World.
So, I feel that the viewers are losing out in this. The World has gone, so they have lost the analyitcal tone of that programme. There's still only one WNT and nothing new has been gained with the extra BBC News bulletin, as that will just be a repeat of every other BBC News bulletin on the channel.
