I've just had a look at the schedules at bbcworld.com to see what is happening next week with regards to the axing of The World. When it was announced, I thought that they would just be axing The World and replacing it with WNT at 1800 GMT (an hour earlier) and filling the 1900 GMT hour with BBC News. I thought that the new WNT would be in addition to the existing WNT at 2000 GMT. However, looking at the schedule for next week, The World has gone, however WNT at 2000 GMT has also been axed and replaced with BBC News and HARDtalk. So, viewers have lost out really. We've lost the analysis and in-depth reporting of The World and the 1800 and 2000 GMT hours have merely been swapped. So, viewers are gaining nothing from this change...in fact, we're losing. Clever tactics there by the BBC.....

I though that was only on Monday. No news programmes on BBC Four at all on Monday but World News Today at 18:00 on Tuesday.

But BBC Four don't go on air til 19.00!?
Presumably he means GMT, though we are currently BST.

To simplify:
Current line-up:
1800 GMT - BBC News
1830 GMT - HardTalk
1900 GMT - The World
1930 GMT - Other programmes
2000 GMT - World News Today (inc. WBR)
2100 GMT - BBC News
2115 GMT - Sport Today
2130 GMT - World Business Report
New line-up:
1800 GMT - World News Today (inc. WBR)
1900 GMT - BBC News
1930 GMT - Other programmes
2000 GMT - BBC News
2030 GMT - HardTalk
2100 GMT - BBC News
2115 GMT - Sport Today
2130 GMT - World Business Report
As you can see, The World has been removed. WNT has been moved to an earlier slot. An extra BBC News bulletin has been added. When I heard that The World was going to be replaced by WNT, I assumed that there would be an extra WNT, in addition to the one at 2000 GMT. That is not the case. There is still only going to be one WNT (albeit earlier) with an extra BBC News bulletin replacing The World.
So, I feel that the viewers are losing out in this. The World has gone, so they have lost the analyitcal tone of that programme. There's still only one WNT and nothing new has been gained with the extra BBC News bulletin, as that will just be a repeat of every other BBC News bulletin on the channel.
