The World Today used to have a lovely orchestral theme, that was loosely based on the last few notes of Lilliburlero. The current theme still is, but even more loosely - and it's not nearly as stirring in my opinion.

I was listining to it, and the song I was describing was the world today song.

Here's the tune played before the pips is that it?

While I'm here, this is the equivalent from 2003

That 'this is the BBC' is quite re-assuring, just what you need when you're in the middle of no-where!

I prefer the one they use now. Much more modern and pacey. While it won't be appreciated by a vast majority of listeners, the bass is excellent.

I think the current package is absolutely fantastic; it captures the whole BBC World Service thang perfectly in my opinion. Particularly great listening to it late at night. It has a similar effect to the Shipping Forecast on Radio 4.

Here are a couple of cuts from the package (another top of hour ident recorded from the radio, and two beds taken from the Adelphoi website):

1. Top of hour ident
2. Top of hour bed
3. I have no idea, but it's on the Adelphoi website and sounds fantastic

Incidentally, if anyone has this package I'd be very interested indeed.

I only ripped it myself from their site about half an hour ago, it really is uber fab.

Yeah, I'm really liking it. Again, that's a good reason why we should have BBC world in UK, or they update News 24's sound package.

It has a very global feel to it, good stuff.

The songs above arent it. I like it though. it's more like na na na nanananan nana na na na. I know that looks silly, but with the internet, it's hard. I might num it into a mic on my computer. It sounds like it has little beeps, but morse code like, not lowe beeps.

It's another top of the hour ident, have a listen to the first example of mine above for it with words

They're cool beds... would sound good on something like five live. On another point, I notice that Owen Thomas is reading the news on the world service... and there are plenty of other voices you recognise but can't put a name to... I'm guessing old BBC continuity announcers - wasn't Roger Maude on BBC1? I've now started tuning in and he was on yesterday.
