Today marks the 1st anniversary of the passing of the great Alastair Yates.

Here's an almost complete bulletin of news from 2005.

Always remembered, never forgotten.

He always seemed to be so comfortable and competent in front of the camera, which made his broadcasts very easy to watch.

I agree, Batavia. The hallmark of a great broadcaster. One who makes us believe there’s no camera and other technology in between him and us.

Sadly, in the current day, I can count on one hand those who fit the same bill.

For the overnight simulcasts are the graphics all just branded BBC News, esp in the headline sequence, or are they able to play out different version to World News and the UK with their respective branding now the DOG isn't in a fixed position?

It’s still branded Bbc world news etc overnights the lower thirds are generated by their respective galleries.

It's not done by different galleries though, it's the same gallery with two graphics engines providing alternate versions.

There's not someone in a gallery sitting there just putting uip captions

One gallery - two outputs, via two different Viz engines, driven by the same dynamic data, but with different templates (and potentially flipper sources)

Currently no on-screen graphics on World. Nothing at all.

Before 2008 when the news channel was News 24 and World News was just World the overnights were produced by the the News 24 crew and World had to overlay their tower or logo bar on top of the News 24 equivalent with all the astons and lower thirds coming from N24 but adjusted for the joint audience. This meant there used to be a little bit of extra red after the word 'World' to cover up the News 24 clock when it got moved back to 4:3 safe area.
The new technology which allowed the lower thirds to adapt the style of the 2 different programmes came in shortly before the move to Broadcasting House and was quite clear on the overnights (now produced by BBC World News) while there was a transition period where World News had moved and changed but the domestic news channel was still in Television Centre.
I'm sure someone can point to picture examples.

I can point to a video example Very Happy

Here, you can see an overnight bulletin from Studio C on the end of the News Channel, with the old countdown and lower thirds being played out on a clean feed, fed through to N6's gallery. This method did sometimes lead to issues (the last seconds of the NC countdown occasionally appeared on World).

It was in this way that it was slightly different prior the News Channel move, as it is now controlled by different Viz engines from Studio C in NBH, I'm led to believe.
