At 1625 Nisha Pillai began an interview with a former Israeli ambassador to the UN, just to abruptly interrupt it one minute and a half later, just after she had asked her second question which the guy could not answer. I find interviews on BBCWN rahther short already, but this is absurd, particularly because we have been shown the weather after the end of the bulltin, which could have easily been avoided.

Happy New Year to all at BBC World and here on the BBC World thread. Hope you all have a fabulous 2009!

Did anyone happen to see who did the shift after Nisha Pillai last evening? I thought that the double headers with Lyse and Nisha were quite good yesterday and flowed quite well, although it was strange to see Lyse anchoring from a remote indoor studio as opposed to a rooftop or roundabout as is normally the case!

Don't forget that BBC World now has multiple streams - and multiple affiliates. Unless there is serious breaking news they have to finish the news bulletin at a fixed time, otherwise the bulletin will simply be cut-off mid-item on some outlets. Not everyone stays for the weather...

I know, then it's just nonsense to start an interview at 25 past the hour.

Mike Embley did the midnight shift on New Year's Eve. Ever since I can remember that shift was either done by him or Alastair Yates.
Talking about Nisha Pillai, I found her stint on the 31st Dec to be not one of her best. Much confusion, and quite a few mistakes and uneasy moments, actually.

And? Have you never had a bad day at the office? She is human after all.

Yeah, of course. I was just surprised to read that everything flowed quite well while she was presenting, that' s all.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, but does BBC World News have a "Breaking News" sting since their 2008 relaunch.

I refer to a previous example:

Hi rts. There is no "sting" as such for Breaking News. However, a standard BBC World News sting is played when entering and exiting a special "Live Coverage" segment, which would require breaking into normal (non newsdesk) coverage.

Regards.

Who is the asian girl on BBC World News now?

She's not coping well at all with the developing news although Lyse is doing most of the work...

EDIT: And they've gone with a strange simulcast with the BBC One news with Joanna Gosling... hrmm
