Well Washington has new 16:9 cameras (probably HD given that BBC America is launcing and HD channel) whilst the cameras in the NY bureau are 4:3 (and thus ARCed and zoomed to 14:9 pillarbox) and AIUI they are 15 years old or more. The BBC rent the studio and bureau space in New York from PBS broadcaster WNET / Channel 13 and that includes the main studio facilities for WBR. The studio is a broom cupboard.
wait, so does that mean, that the studio in New York was actually supposed to be a Broom Cupboard?

Michelle Fleury presented a "special edition" -that's what she said in the end- of the Biz Edition. She was looking rather stunning tonight. One more evidence that the cameras in the New York studio are terribly unflattering.

I don't understand why Newsnight is not broadcast anymore on World News. I mean, there has recently been a Newsnight survey on the BBC World News Panel, is this a consequence of panelists disliking the programme?

Ummm, what do you mean? It was on this past weekend, and my programme guide still shows it on next weekend as well.

Very good to see CNN's Owen Thomas now on BBC World at the weekend. It's very refreshing to have a younger newsreader with a bit of personality on the channel. Although I wonder how old Owen actually is? He's been around for years. Does he present during the week?

It was? I just couldn't find it. The end of summer time messes me up.

The BBC World News ident shown at 1730GMT before WBR just had quite different music from the normal one - is this a replacement or another version?

So far he has only presented at weekends. Owen was a presenter on BBC World many years ago as well. He was a Business Presenter in the same era that Mishal Husain, Adrian Finighan and Teymoor Nabili were all business presenters at World.
I agree that he brings a certain vitality to the bulletins. In fact, what appears to be the new regular weekend line up (Martine Dennis / Peter Dobbie / Owen Thomas) is just like World was ten or so years ago! They were all presenters then as well.
Am I showing my age?

Speaking of Mr Willcox, I thought his interview with John Prescott on the News Channel last week about Prescott's study of class in society was rather amusing as Tim Willcox was trying his best to not appear middle/upper class whilst Prescott was having none of it demanding to know his background - a rather wealthy upbringing, private school, Durham University etc. - which Tim wasn't too impressed with sharing.
