I didn't watch BBCWorldNews that much last week, but I have the impression they've been giving much more space to the Repubblican convention than to the Democratic one. Am I wrong?

Yeah I think you're probably wrong. Obama had all the news for about a week, every night it was first billing, first Hillary's speech, then his wife's then Bill, then Obama himself.

This changed with the announcement of McCain's VP - the moment when they manged to wrench control of the media back to the Republicans. And now it's their conference so it's all about them.

Linette Tye back again on World today doing the mid shift (usually Peter Dobbie does that one). She was caught out early by the camera and could be seen trying to get instructions from the floor manager as to which camera she should open from (ans still got it wrong!!!)

I have noticed that Juliette Foster seems to enjoy a lot of banter and friendly handovers when she appears alongside Mike Embley or Jonathan Charles.

With JC yesterday, they were discussing the US employment figures whilst doing the handover to the biz segment, and ended up not doing a proper biz report but the two of them just sat at the desk and chatted about it for a few minutes. During the discussion, Juliette said something along the lines of "you will fully understand what I am talking about Jonathan, as you are also an Economist, but the figures today actually.................."

So, JC is an Economist, huh? That explains the pink shirts, to match his pink FT.

BBC World News - Never Stop Asking... hmm not very good.

The new look Hardtalk is a bit odd, nice remix of the music though.

Yeah, i agree. The advert is not bad, but the "never stop asking" part doesn't seem like a BBC World News sort of thing.

I find it awful and it sure has nothing to do with the rest of the channel's graphics. The remix is not bad but still worse than the original tune.

Why does it need to fit in with the channels graphics??

Also strange to hear a male voiceover on the channel after all these years...

What's up with the news presenters sitting almost in the middle of the desk now? It looks really stupid especially when there is another presenter next to them. They're almost at the very edge of the desk. Looks ridiculous.

Jonathan studied at Oriel College, Oxford University. He holds an MA(Oxon) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and speaks French and German fluently.

So now with the new 'October' trail on screen, it looks as though BBC World News is rolling out male voiceover across the channel.

I guess they want to counter the softer and more accessible look of the new package, with a strong feeling of authority - and in the broadcast world, a male voice is still seen as being the most authoratitive voice.

Owen Thomas from CNN is doing the news this afternoon. He's a frelancer but it's still strange to see the same anchor on 2 rival news channels. Shocked Shocked Shocked
