ugh... good thing they convert it again to 14:9, pretty messed up for viewers in the Philippines...

DOG & ticker, and LIVE bug is out of 4:3 safe area... what the heck!

Looks like essentially what has happened is that the all the channel's output (promos, weather, breakfiller) has changed to be fully 16:9 internally. This image is then being framed to 14:9 for output, which means full widescreen isn't far away.

whoa! the "coming up" music is finally complete!

but seriously, they shouldn't surprise us converting to 16:9 like that w/o notice...

With both Lyse Doucet and Nik Gowing in Georgia, I was pleased to see the excellent Peter Dobbie doing WNT for two days this week.

And, I was just thinking to myself earlier today that I hadn't seen Mike Embley for ages...........and up he pops!

* * * * * * *

Taken off the now fixed breakfiller, but its all in 14:9 now, what was wrong with 4:3??

There's a new bug in the third thumbnail, the NEXT changes size and pushed the programme name to two lines!

Also some of the text now appears stretched.

why can't they broadcast in 16:9 in Europe now, this 14:9 format is pointless, either broadcast 4:3 or 16:9

You are aware how pathetic it looks in 4:3 though? Id rather see 14:9 than 4:3 if 16:9 isn't possible all around the world yet.

Where does the 0045GMT edition of Asia Today -which I think has been put into schedule just a few days ago- come from?

I suspect that they need to ensure that all the platforms that they broadcast on - or more importantly are re-broadcast on - are 16:9 friendly. They still have a number of outlets that are analogue 4:3 only (which may themselves be fed by digital receivers that won't output 14:9)

This is the same reason that Al Jazeera is still 4:3 I believe.
