That's much better then opening with no opening shot at all!

Is their no way BBC World can do some sort of opening shot, it just goes straight into the presenters shot.

It's an incredibly ugly shot which makes the studio look messy and tacky, and the the camera doesn't match any of the others.

Because of the angle, it also f***s the perspective of the fake newsroom on the newswall, making it obvious that it is a projection.

That's a good point, it does look fake dosen't it, maybe they should try the right hand side or to keep it simple use the camera which shows the newsroom backdrop, either way BBC World News needs to open with an opening shot!

that really is such a horrible clumsy messy shot. having said that, if its coming from tractor cam why don't they just turn it round a bit to get an overhead desk shot with a bit of the right had pod instead.
so they throw to the right hand pod in the manner they used to when N24 had that studio?

The problem with looking in the other direction though, is that there is now a camera directly between desk and the right hand pod - due to the angle of the shot changing, so that the barco screen can be incorporated in the presenter's single shot. Previously with the rear projection screen, the camera was further back towards the rest of the cameras on the back wall.
They will also be keen not to show the right hand pod, as strictly speaking it is now the second set for World, and therefore shouldn't be appearing in wides of the main studio area.

One thing that I always find annoying is that when the sets have been designed more thought hasn't been put into where to place items like the printer. You also have both in BBC World News and BBC News a problem with the sports presenter mics and the cables for the laptop on the stand. Why aren't they radio mics instead? And could they not have incorporated the wiring better?
