I believe the cameras and vision mixer have been upgraded as well in that area, as well as the Barco wall been added and the set renewed.

Illustrative piccy of new mixer being used:

Yep... Same mixer as being installed in most news and non-news TVC studios these days - in HD and SD. Sony 8000 or 8000G. (Some GVGs are being bought up the road at BH)

Also becoming standard in most SIS (formerly BBC) OB trucks.

returning to the Superpass topic:
how much are the rates per channel? and is the stream encrypted w/ some kind of a DRM similar to Windows?

It would appear that the World News website sends you to the old superpass website, the new one has no mention of BBC World

I can't believe that they haven't done anything at all in the TOTH to differentiate the 'Newshour' from any other ordinary bulletin (apart from the two presenters). It's all very well for nerds like us, but the average viewer just wouldn't notice it.

Instead they are putting all their energies into mounting more and more World News Todays, which are themselves almost indistinguishable from ordinary bulletins, apart from the different titles.

Wish list:
- A proper brand for the Newshour
- A new opener (if not a new name) for World Busines Report, at the very least something different for when it is part of World News Today. At the moment it doesn't feel like an hour long broadcast, just a normal bulletin followed by WBR and then the headlines at BOTH.
- A clearer differentiation between World News Today and ordinary bulletins. Now there isn't even the shift to a crappier studio to make it feel different!
- Some logic to their use of web addresses. It used to be simple - bbcworld.com was the station's site, bbcnews.com was the news site.

Now they have a website (bbcworldnews.com) that you would be forgiven for thinking would give you the news first up when you load it, and then when they plug their news site they give the cumbersome bbc.co.uk/news. Why? What's wrong with bbcnews.com - it goes to the same place anyway.

Grrrr.

My wish list (ha!)

- Pans after the titles
- WBR interviews to come from soft set, not the desk
- Keep George's and Zeinab's WNT's but turn the remaining into BBC Newshours
- Close the 0500GMT BBC World News properly and not rushed, with both presenters at the desk.
- Don't rush the closes! It looks really bad! This morning Jonathan was reminding us of the headlines, the music was playing, it was up so loud that we couldn't actually hear him anymore!

Edit: noggin - thanks for your explanation up the top of the page.

^^^ I agree with your wish list. I miss the wide shot of the set after the titles.

Also I think they should have regular bulletins from the desk while WNT from the newswall , desk and the soft area.

Have only just seen the new N8 on TV in WNT on BBC Four, and then immediately switched over to BBC NC. It really highlights haw fabulous N8 is compared to N6, which in comparison, looks crap.

Why is BBC WN now in such a better studio than the BBCs main national news operation (it is the BRITISH Broadcasting Corp. after all) Rolling Eyes

Its exactly what happened in the year 2000, BBC World had far superior presentation back then with a then better looking N9, now eight years on Laimbie Nairn are again involved and virtually the same thing has happened.

Well all i can say is BBC World News is once again a much better looking operation than any of the UK News programmes. News 24 would have been great in there with the studio set up as it is now. N6 really does look dull in comparison.

BBC World News now looks way better (both in sets & presentation [not many TOTH stuff-ups like NC]) & is really making the channel better.

@the eye: You can't get get rid of 4 WNT like that, they need to keep (at least) George, Zeinab & Philippa's edition & combine Mishal & Nik's WNT to make another WNT - then you'll have four WNT, but all targeting a different region of the world (but make sure that they are separate and all not near each other.)

Yes, you can get rid of them, BBC World has been without them for many years.
As I said, keep George and Zeinab's, ditch the rest and have Double header News hours.

If you've ever watched all the WNT's you'll know that they are hardly regionally focused anyway. However Nik's does have a short 'Asia Round Up'

The 0300GMT version can be kept but as a news hour, no need for it to be WNT!
