looks to me that there had been complants on the Presenter rotas, David Eades now presents 2 news bulletins before the "the hour of news" at 0900 GMT

Why can't they be suggestions? Who said they were complaints?

I'm rather interested to see this effect with the mpa that everyone seems to like so much

I presume you mean map? If so, try watching BBC Four news at 7, they used the effect last night at least.

Does nobody else think the look is totally undermined by those default Text Box shapes from PowerPoint used under the guise of broadcast graphics?

I always liked when they used plain graphics, especially the set when they had the purple straps. They set the BBC apart from other broadcasters. So no. I'm glad the plainness is back.

You havn't used powerpoint in a while then. The default seems to use gradients, and even bevels.

The simplicity of the on-screen graphics, is unique now to the UK News brands, the type is very clear, and it is clean, adaptable and strong.

Well, I would still prefer the whole of the BBC WORLD NEWS strap to stretch all the way to the left end though. Confused

I use PowerPoint every day. Perhaps I should have qualified my statement with "Default Text Box shapes from PowerPoint 2003".

Yes, I agree, simplicity, clarify and adaptibility are key, and it's most certainly a great thing that UK news have held on to this idea. The point I was edging towards is that as nice a set this is, the graphics just don't work with it.

Watch one of the closers posted earlier (http://youtube.com/watch?v=CT_gffQ31jU), and look at how the graphics work with the titles. In my view someone's slapped a couple of boxes on a page, reshaped them and made them red and grey. They don't even line up. Look at some of the caps posted earlier - the red and grey colours either disappear into the set completely, or look as though they've been chucked on to the picture, complete with mismatching tones of red for the bug and breaking news ticker. Perhaps these comments are too general to the new BBC package as a whole, but I just think the nice new World set highlights how rubbish the graphics are.

By all means we need simplicity, but also something that works with the set? Arabic proves how great simple can be. I can't work out the thought process behind using lots of coloured boxes and plan text?

The straps from a year ago would suit this look far better - obviously alter the dark "glassy" look to a paler version, in order to keep in with the white titles, but their presence on-screen along with their on-and-off animations just looked vastly superior. And much more of-the-moment. These seem so last season Wink

I completely agree with, DAS. I have nothing wrong with simple, concise graphics.

But after the effort BBC News have gone to with great new titles etc, the lower third graphics really spoil the overall image.

It's like putting a roof rack on a Ferrari.
