If the whole objective of this grand reorganisation was to cut costs, I'm not sure how continuining to use N9 makes sense. Was it not due to be mothballed?
Well it was going to be mothballed but kept operational in case N6, N8 or TC7 keels over. I reckon they might use it for the odd overnight just to make sure it still works and make sure the staff can still work with the outdated kit - I presume it won't get a refit, although maybe a tweaked set?
I wonder how long it would take to get N9 on air? There was an occasion not too long ago when the fact that N9 is in a different part of the building to the other studios meant World were able to cover for the One when the area where N6 and N8 are were evacuated. TC7 was busy doing Working Lunch.

do they just want to make use of N9? since it's still very usable and functional...?

But isn't that what the Westminster studios are used for? Or just a CSO studio would do.
Or just chuck a cable out the window and do it in the Blue Peter garden. Umbrellas optional if wet.

I'd have thought moving to Westminster was a last resort - if it's just the studio which has failed rather than the entire newsroom operation then having a "hot spare" studio on site is going to cause less disruption than moving to the other side of London. Moving to N9 means that all the OB and other outside sources which would usually be available through SCAR will remain available - I assume Millbank has a much less comprehensive feed switching arrangement.
For example when the news channel had just moved into N6 the aircon failed and they joined World for half an hour so they could turn the studio lights off and cool the place down. If another suitable studio had been available they might have decamped to it, but moving to another studio *centre* would be a much bigger undertaking.
Where do you propose plugging this cable into if the gallery has failed?

I was hoping for a little cheek-tongue action, but never mind eh...
